Reserving A Puppy Question I was wondering this about reserving a puppy since I am unfamiliar with the process. For instance, if someone is only interested in buying a small silky- coated female , is it possible to leave a deposit and 'hope' that one is available in the litter? Or, do you just get the option of choosing male or female? Thanks for the information. |
I can't help you, I've only reserved them after seeing them, not before they were born. |
As a breeder, I would never, ever let someone reserve a puppy before it is born. I might let htem at four weeks old. As a rule, tho, I don't even take deposits until six weeks. It's just bad business. No one can guarantee coat or size. my last two litters, I have had one large on in each litter. Way bigger than the others. I have also hadd what looks to be one cotton coat in each litter. Those things are only a guess for anyone. so in my opinion, it would be unwise to reserve a puppy like that and you probably won't find a breeder that will reserve one to you under those conditions. if they do, be wary. |
it all depends. with a breeder i trust, where ive seen many past litters and all have been what i want, i would leave a deposit before a litter is born. but if its a breeder who you just found, id wait to see the litter :) |
most yorkies don't grow into their coat and color until 2yrs of age. you can get a good idea from the parents and if they have the grandparents, that would be a great indication. some breeders on this site know their breed so well, they could guess when they are older just by experience. |
We "reserved" our first Yorkie only in so much as we had to indicate interest and specify whether we were more interested in a boy or girl. We ended up picking him out 2 days after he was born. I think we also had to put down a 10 or 20 percent deposit to show we were serious. (It would be refunded if we chose none of the dogs and put against a different litter.) It was really cool because he didn't even fill my hand. He growled at me though. I should have known then it was going to be a rocky relationship ... and it was! He was SO different than our guy now in just about every way you can imagine. |
