yes it can work out if you have a bigger dog! my neighbor has a big german shepard also and he little girl yorkie plays with him outside all the time when the weather permits. he chases her around and yes it looks scary to someone who hasn't seen it before but he doesn't hurt her. |
To be perfectly honest, I was also concerned about the weight difference. BUT, mastiffs are SO gentle (and most of the time lazy couch potatoes)!! I read the thread on here about big dogs and the yorkies, and it seems like a lot of you have big dogs with a little yorkie! That definitely gave me reassurance. My mastiff baby is indoor ONLY. Personally I'd never ever leave a dog outside, especially a mastiff. They are so sensitive and need to be with their family, they'd just be heartbroken if left outside. I was PMing with someone on here who actually does have a mastiff and she gave me a wonderful tip to begin early by teaching a "it's a baby" phrase to initiate a calm nature. I thought this was a great idea. Also, I would never bring in another dog, regardless of it being a yorkie or a different breed, unless my other dog was ready and calm enough to handle a new living thing in the house. The big guy would have to be just perfect with his manners, or else I'd push back the yorkie date until he was ready. :) |

Yorkies Size Moochie is 2 years old and on a good day he is 5 lbs 6 oz...The size really shouldn't matter..Once you own a yorkie you will find out they are such loving babies..This is my first dog that I have had to take care of and you would actually think I am talking about a child when I start talking about Moochie..I have had such a wonderful time raising Moochie...:aimeeyork |

I also have a hard time leaving a dog outside but I know a lot of people that do it, and bring the dogs in for the evening. I like my doggies inside with me all the time :) |
I absolutely refuse to leave my dogs outside by themselves. I had one once and i had him tied out back of my house before i moved. he was a carin terrier/chow mix and he got attacked by a boxer and another dog of simlar boxer size. either way like 2-3 times his size and my hubby had to go out there and beat taht boxer off i mean all out hit him over the head. anyways they pinned him to a tree in my back yard and i had to call the cops and they came out my dog had to go to the vet and stay the night that was hard for me and get stitches and sutures. i was very mad at those dogs. the cops finally found one of the dogs and its owner but they had moved and left the dog along tied up in their back yard. so nothing ever got done to them. and get this is is what really makes me mad i ended up switching vets because of this. they called me the next day and told me they had him under anesthia and wanted to know if i wanted to go ahead and get him fixed too they said it would take the fight out of him, i blew up on the lady i was like no i do not want him fixed poor guy if he hadnt of had what fight he had those other dogs would have killed him or tore him up more all that dog did was defend himself and as far as i know those otehr dogs werent hurt. those dogs came into my yard and beat on my baby in his yard. he was trapped poor thing. so moral of the story do not leave your dogs alone outside. |
