Can't Say I Didn't Warn You!!!!! Okay YT fans, this is a lesson you won't forget easily. I myself learned the hard way. You know all those books that say DO NOT feed Yorkies table/human food. Well, smarty me!!!!. I didn't think that those books applied to Maggie. She's eats everything. So, yesterday I let her celebrate by giving her about 2 TBLS. of Mesquite Smoked Brisket. Well, this is where the lesson was learned. At 6 AM this morning, I awoke to a terrible smell. I was going to blame it on my husband, but he was already up. I hung my head over the edge of the bed, close to Maggie's crate. THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM HER. I immediately jumped out of bed, opened her crate, and before I could kiss her good morning, out it came and it was everywhere. On her, On Me, On The Floor. She got a bath right away. My husband said he got her bed all cleaned up. I left her in the kitchen, so I could get the blow dryer. The odor was still in the bedroom. I found more Poo, that hubby missed. I went back to kitchen and there was TWO MORE PILES. So, here I am---all shampooed, wrinkly hands, washer and dryer going and Maggie is asleep. NO, NO HUMAN FOOD is imprinted in my nose. Y'all don't say I didn't warn ya. |
haha! Not laughing at you, though! For us, the stinky poo happened the first couple of times that I gave my dogs treats from my plate. Now, the babies can eat ANYTHING! Does't affect them anymore. But you are right. Not suppose to feed them table scraps. |
What a HORRIBLE way to awaken!! My female Yorkie gets one tiny bite of bread at each meal....she thinks it's heaven. My male puppy doesn't even come to the table because he's NEVER had human food and doesn't even know it's there. We did good with him and our female will sit and cry at every meal. SO sorry you had to go through that.....but now you know! I feel sorry for your Yorkie as well as you and your family! |
:D :D :D you poor thing - I remember that happening .....they sure can get it EVERYWHERE - you'll probably find it in places you didn't spot yet in the days ahead - Once that happened in my house and ALL the toys on the toy matt were covered with it - they try to run away from it or roll around to get it off them and man can it spread ! I bet the brisket was too rich - I give mine bites at dinner now cause I can't say no to those eyes....but they seem to have stronger tummies when they're older...but you're right - NO people food is best - I just happen to be a whimp Hope your baby feels better - it may not be over yet ! |
oh my goodness i gave my 2 boys 1 tiny chicken nugget each the other day and they had the worst farts i wanted to throw up lMAO ! |
lol...It's AMAZING how these little tiny bodies can clear a room isn't it ? I've had to go outside a few times myself...Sometiimes I think they do it on purpose when I'm on the computer cause they know I'll jump up and leave the room ! :D |
I have even done that with treats. I found this long thing like a chew, but Zowie ate the whole thing, then finished up Bronx. I had no idea she could eat the WHOLE THING! Now when I see those at the store, it makes me shiver. :shocked7q |

HAHAHA! The other day, Gracie and I were taking a nap. All of a sudden, I smell this rank, dirty, crawled -up-your-butt-and-died smell. I opened my eyes and see nothing but her butt right in front of my face. Needless to say, the nap was over and I was busting out with the spray! |
LOL! I am trying my best for JeBo to stay away from human food. Even though he tries. Jane can eats human food :p but him I do not want to make the same mistake twice because "once they eat that, they never go back." |
I try to be firm with the "no human food rule" too, but hubby likes to be the "good guy" and spoil them, so he thinks!! I think I've lost the battle but at least he "hides it". My biggest problem is that their poo is then not as solid and sometimes "worse", if ya know what I mean.  :D :D |
Thanks everybody. At least now I know I am not the only one that has a wee one that can pack a powerful punch. She seems to have gotten it all out of her system. It's funny though, I think I smell it. I have searched every inch. Odor must be stuck on the hair in my nose. She's napping right now on a chair beside me. Me, I'm still trying to get my first cup of coffee for the day. Guess I will give up on that and just go for the tea. |
l also have a no human food rule, I back it up with the "who wants to clean up the mess!" Works relatively well. |
Oh- you poor thing!! Yes-- definately tough way to find out why thye should not have table food!!! Hopefully you all have recovered from this!! And we always ask though-- How could something soooo small produce something soooo rancid????  They really do know how to clear a room!!!!! :p |
Tino has definitley suprised me with the silent, but deadly kind that sneak up and it always seems to be when we are taking a nap or laying on the couch watching a movie! Gasp! He could definitley clear a room! |
My vet told me that she sees soooo many yorkies during the holidays because of collitis. She said it is worse during the holiday season than the rest of the year put together because so many people allow their dogs to have bits and pieces of the holiday feast (intentional or not - we all have those family members that won't listen when we say NO people food). So far, we don't allow people food and hope to keep it that way. I feel bad for Stitches that she woke to such a horrible thing! Hope your baby is feeling better by now. Lisa |
OMG, I am so sorry your poor baby (and you!) had to go through that, but man, this thread was cracking me up! I am one of those bad dog mommies that shares with her dogs, but only little bits and I haven't had any issues like that. I did have a cat once that could only eat cat food, anything else came right back up. It never failed that whatever roommate I had at the time would try to sneak her some tuna or something, despite my warnings. I always made them clean up the mess, ha ha! |
I can see holiday problems if you are having other people around especially! My girlfriend spent the week here last week, we spent plenty of time watching her new baby. We were eating pizza a couple of nights ago and she held a BIG piece of crust down to Zowie, when I said "oh yeah, you can't feed her (the baby) any table food, especially til she gets a little bigger. I looked down at Zoe and she already had a huge piece of pizza she was working on, which I just took away from her "sorry". I am sure she (my friend) will have to learn for herself one day, just not at my house. ;) |
I learned that lesson as well. We are teaching Cookie to keep away from the table when we eat and it's working. I don't give him or Mimi any meat that is spicy. I don't give them steak either. If I do sneak him or Mimi a little piece it's usually grilled chicken breast but a size of a quarter. Yesterday Cookie took an inch long piece of Twizzlers out of my mouth! I wash watching TV and had small piece sticking out of my mouth when all of a sudden I see himcrawling up my chest and tilting his head as if he's going to "human kiss me" lol well he very gently put one paw on my chin and took the twizzler out of my mouth! Then after that I gave him two more 1inch pieces. Well and another good thing! Hubby was able to brush Cookie's teeth without a battle! lol First time Cookie acted like he was being killed, barking and screaming. Then the next time I didnt hear him make a sound ,he just let my hubby brush his teeth! Now Mimi is a different story! Genie |
I used to feed pizza to a dog we used to have and I still regret it till this day! When I told the vet that I was feeding him pizza the vet really flipped out because it wasn't just the crust it was two whole slices for a 40-50 lb dog! The taught me what the grease, cheese, sauce does to a dog's kidneys, liver. So now when we order pizza I will not feed Cookie or Mimi not even the crust. My hubby or kids want to give them aquarter size piece of dry crust and it still brings back memories and I just don't allow it! Genie |
We'll, you have to figure we are 100-250 pounds (for instance), the dogs are 2 -10 pounds. If my dogs get too many treats, they won't eat their dogfood. So I try to imagine the treat is 10 to 20 times that size making a quarter size piece equal to a slice of pizza or maybe lots more. |
