Had to call ASPCA Poison Hotline Today I called the ASPCA Poison Hotline today. :( I was cleaning and emptied a shoe box with all the excess paper and that packet they put in evey shoe box that says Silica Gel Do Not Eat. Well guess who tried to eat it? Rudy   I didn't know he had it, I thought I had thrown it out and I saw he had something in his mouth and sure enough it was that. He had chewed thru the paper and about 3/4 of the pebbles inside were gone. I had the magnet on my refrigerator and that's the lst thing I thought of, to call them. The vet was very nice that I talked to, he said it was not poisonous and not a serious sitution unless he had injested the packet whole. Which he didn't, Thank God. The vet also said it's either ground up glass or sand in those packets and it will eventually come out. ;) If Rudy would have injested the whole packet the vet said, then it would have been serious because it would have caused an obstruction. They did not charge me for the phone call to them. :) Just wanted to let everyone know, in case anything like this happens to their Yorkies/dogs. I love him dearly but today I could have strangled him. ;):D |
im so glad he is ok.... wow, you must of been terrified..... your to funny though. |
Glad to hear that Rudy is going to be okay. It is amazing how fast they can get into things. The ASPCA is great I subscribe to their newsletters that are very informative and also sometimes very sad. They are a great resource. |
We had a thread a month ago in the Sick threads and I posted this: Non-toxic Substances for Dogs and Cats The following substances are considered to be non-toxic, although they may cause mild gastrointestinal upset in some animals: - Water-based paints - Toilet bowl water - Silica gel - Poinsettia - Cat litter - Glue traps - Glow jewelry http://www.meadowsprings.net/puppy_care.htm |
Gina: Thanks, I was scared :2omg: but when I found out he was going to be ok, then I got mad at him. ;) I hope that doesn't sound bad, but he always has his nose to the ground eating something, just now he had a used dryer sheet that he got from the wash basket of clean clothes. YorkieAddict, I think the ASPCA does wonderfull work also and I was so... glad they have that Hotline to call. I am a member also but mine needs renewed. You can bet I'm going to be doing that. :) I love their magazine they send out to their members also. |

Yep, that was me and my little monster ate one of those packets too! She was fine...I had also called that animal poison hotline to be safe. Glad I did, but they DID charge me...lol! Glad your baby is ok too! |
Wow that was close I'm so glad he is okay |
So glad to know that it isn't serious!! |
" Thanks " everyone for your concern and well wishes. :) I appreciate that. It is so... scary when something like that happens. I don't know if the reason they didn't charge me was because I am a member of the ASPCA, but they only asked me for my name and phone #. |
