3 am peeing? We're working on housebreaking now & a dilemma cropped up..Jake is 12 wks. old & sleeps in my bed...I've been getting up between 2-4 a.m...yes that's right a.m. not p.m. to take him out to pee...someone mentioned to me that I shouldn't do that because it will condition him to pee at those times & he will never hold it through the night...& can a 12 wk. old hold it all night? I really don't want him to pee on my back.... Thoughts?? |
Yes, some of them can - I think it depends on the dog. My Rowdy woke me up in the middle of the night for the first couple of weeks to go out, then he started sleeping through the night. Rexy, on the other hand, slept through the night (no peeing) from 8 weeks. Now though, Rowdy occasionally wakes me up about 3:00AM to go out (Rowdy is 2 years old). Rexy rarely gets up. I think it just depends and even if he sleeps through the night now, he may, like Rowdy, want to get up when he is grown..... |
Thanks Rowdysmom...Jake IS sleeping at those times..it's ME that wakes up between 2-4 a.m. thinking he has to pee..so I pick up a perfectly good sleeping dog & drag him out in the cold to see if he has to go. lol Maybe I better stop doing that..it would feel good for a change to sleep through the night.. it's been 4 weeks now... |
My two little ones have been sleeping from 9 at night to 7:30 am since they were 9 weeks old. I know that not all of them can hold it all night, or maybe just see no need to as long as they are not confined to a crate. Now that you have started this, it might be too late to break the habit. |
Jeaniek ..that's a what I was afraid was going to happen that I was going to create a habit..now that I see he's old enough I'M going to try & sleep through starting tonight.. Thanks also |
I wish you luck. I hope your are pleasantly surprised. I think you will probably wake up if he starts nosing around. |
