New Member Here Hi! I'm a new member here and am really glad to find this sight. I signed up for another one, and never could get my posts on. I have a little Yorkie--10 months old and she is 3##oz. now. I don't think she will get much bigger, as she seems like she has quit growing and is getting a little weight on her. When do they reach their full growth? Another thing i really hope someone will help me with, is HOW DO YOU KEEP BOWS IN THEIR HAIR? Boy! I have tried everything. Velcro, snap barretes and clasp barettes! I keep hot gluing the bows on different things, and can't find anything to work! Please Please help! I made her a Xmas dress and a pink part dress , but she really needs a bow! Maybe her hair is just too light. Thanks for any help! Pat ;) |
Hello and welcome as for bows when the groomers put them in my jasmines hair they use a little rubber band but as soon as jasmine gets home she rub's her head on everything till it comes off. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! What's her name? Is she a sweetie pie or a little dickens? Probably both, like my Higgins, right? Since my husband will not allow bows in his "little boy's" hair, Higgins doesn't wear bows. He will be 1 year old on December 28th and is a pretty big fella at 6+ pounds. He is the light of our lives! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, Pat!! My little girl is Toto, 16 months, 4 lbs.! She is spoiled rotten. The only success with her bows has been little rubber bands similar to those used on braces but the groomer says they have a substance on them to keep them from slipping. Also, I have to take Toto's down every single day when I brush her or the topknot gets so matted it takes a long time to get all the tangles out! Again, welcome, hope you like it here!! Tell us all about your little one! ;) |
welcome welcome!! :) I really haven't experimented too much with Luna's hair yet... she's only 11 weeks old and weighs, as of last week, 1 lb 8 oz. I have a big feeling she'll be a lot more this week when we take her to the vet. She's a little piggy when it comes to eating... anyhow, back to the hair before I get distracted, yeah... I only tried a little clip on her once and her hair was too thin for it to stay. Now that bettyanne mentioned the rubber bands used on braces, I will sure try that... I actually use them because I have braces... so I will let you know how that goes once I start hairstyling Luna... lol P.S. please tell us more about your baby... we'd love to hear! |
Welcome to yorkie talk. I wish I could be helpful but I have a boy. We would love to see some picture of her. |
Hi new member Thanks for all of you welcomes and help on bows! Where can you get the rubber bands for braces? It would be worth a try! Also, what do you do about that hair on each side of the eyes? Do you comb it down, or up or cut it off? It's a pesty little thing! My little girl's name is, Snoodles. She just looked like a Snoodles to me. She is 10 months old, weighs 2#3oz, is a little brat at times but is so loving, that one can't help but love her. It's the first Yorkie I've had, and my husband told me I couldn't have another dog, but I said too bad! My little Pekenese died at age 14 in March of Cancer, and I got her the first of April. She has been fully potty trained for the last two months. I finally had to yell bad dog at her and give her a little swat on the butt, and acted like I was going to kill her. She hasn't peed or pooped in the house since. Couldn't believe that worked. They say not to yell at them, but thought I'd try it just this once. I have taught her to sit, beg, dance, lay down, crawl, roll over and play dead. She is so smart, I can't believe it. Never had a Yorkie before, and boy was I missing out. I also have an Oranage Wing Amazon, and a Green Cheek Conure. She loves to play with the Amazon, but is scared to death of my Green Cheek. who is a little bird! The only thing, my Amazon imitates her bark, her whine,(which I come running to see what the matter is) She yells: "Wanna Go Outside"! To which my Snoodles goes running to the door. Then laughs, and says"Your Funny"! Quite a household around here! Again thanks for welcoming me to the board and I know we will have a great time! Pat  |
Pics of SNoodles 2 Attachment(s) Am going to try to send a pic of Snoodles. |
so cute she looks so different in each picture what a doll face she is |
Yes, the one in the basket was Easter, so she was about 14 weeks old, and the other one she was about 7 months! That's what she looks like now! I made her her S-mas dress and Pink Party dress and when I get them developed and scanned, I will post them on here.. Pat |
Oh she is so adorable!!! By any chance is she a teacup? Luna is a teacup and I am assuming she will only weight at most 2 lbs or 3 lbs like snoodles... |
Teacup? Don't really know, as they say there is no such thing as a teacup. However, she was the smallest of the litter. so that is why she is so tiny. I just bought her the doll outfits in a size 18 inch doll, and it hung on her. Guess I will just have to continue to make her clothes. Which is very cheap, uses 1/4 yard of material and a bow or lace. Pat |
Great pictures of Snoodles! I like her unique name, and you're right, she does look like a Snoodles! Thanks for sharing the pix! :) |
http://www.ytca.org/topknothead_clip.jpg Hi Pat, Snoodles is the cutest thing. You must be very proud of her :) For the topnot, i personally do not like the rubber bands, as they break the hair and leave it matted. I use the silicone bands, you can easily find them anywhere. FunkyMunkie, the defination "tea cup" was invented pet stores and greedy breeders trying to make an extra buck. The standard for the yorkshire terrier only says that it should not exceed 7 lbs (which does not prove if the animal is purebred or not) Take a look at this link: http://www.ytca.org/faq.html |
THANKS! I see I made a mistake on her weight above. She weighs 3#2ozs at last weigh in. I reversed the numbers. I know she has gotten a little heavier, but not much bigger. She seems to be very healthy. Very active, good appitite, and good bowels. The vet thought she was in real good health. I was so scared when I had her spayed and teeth pulled, but she came out okay! She does have bumpy spots where they cut her open. They said it would leave, but so far, it hasn't. Is that the puppy cut above? I have cut her like that, but now am trying to let it grow out. I must admit, yesterday, I cut the hair around her eyes. It was driving me crazy. Will try to get the silicone bands. What size fdo you get? I tried some little ones i bought, but I couldn't get themon. Pat |
Pat, Toto also had the little "bumpy" places along her incision. She was spayed and had her teeth removal last March and she still has a couple of the bumps but they are gradually going away! I panicked when I first discovered them but Dr. Lucy assured me it was OK and not out of the ordinary! That woman has the patience of Job!!! :D Snoodles is a cutie!! Isn't it amazing how quickly they change!? ;) |
Thank you so much for answering. I was so worried about those bumps. I was ready to change Vets. I thought what an awful thing to have the rest of her life. I wonder what causes them? It feels almost like metal stitches. So glad they will eventually go away! No one has answered my question about the hair in the corner of the eyes. I'm really ready to just keep them clipped. Do you comb them down or up? It seems like they could really cause trouble for her eyes. Again, thanks for re-assuring me about those bumps. Everytime I rub her belly, I feel so bad for her. Pat |
Pat, I believe the little bumps are probably inside stitches which will eventually dissolve. It's taking Toto's quite a while too! The hair under the eyes? The hair at the very outside and at the edge of the eye ... I brush Toto's down to blend with her beard. The hair at the outside and above the eye ... I brush up and fasten in with the topknot hair. You have to be very careful when clipping the hair near the eyes ... it gets "prickly" and can cause eye infections. There are some good grooming tips and instructions at the : ytca site, complete with diagrams [Babbie posted the link below]. If you go to the site, check out the dog shows held in Florida in June. My Toto's dad, Wyatt won Best of Breed! We were very proud of him! His name is: Tyava’s Wyatt Earp. |
Last time Higgins was groomed, she shaved the hair between his eyes and now the eye goobers are back. Dang! So I'm letting it grow out. He looks a little tacky, but then he has always looked disheveled......sigh......at least he smells good after a bath. :) |
DANG!!! What's with groomers and shaving our babies noses??!! The last time I talked with Ava [our breeder] and we were catching up on everything, I mentioned Toto's "nose shaving" and she was mortified!!! Said she couldn't imagine why someone would do such a thing to a Yorkie!! Also cautioned me about the eye infections that this could cause. Keep an eye on Higgins ... poor baby, don't want him to get an infection! Toto had watery eyes, etc. while we waited for hers to grow out! I love the little "disheveled" look of little boy yorkies!! Give him a puppy kiss from us!! ;) |
1 Attachment(s) Hi what a cutie pie. my missy wears clothes also. sometimes i buy them on ebay. i believe they grow to a year old. I have to babies missy and bobo. missy weighs 5.5 and bobo is 3.5lbs. i use a very small rubber band on their top knot then i put the bow on which is on another rubber band. |
I have a baby girl too and I tried so many different kinds too before I found out where my pet grooming store get theirs. They get it at www.pededge.com ......look under grooming and you will see there are all different kinds of bows and they are already tied with tiny rubber bands and it's much easier to put on.!! |
snoodles is just to cute. My yorkie charlie is my first I would never own another type of dog. |
THANKS EVERYONE! My, I never expected so much input! This is great! Kindness oo1, that is adorable. He looks like he's embarrassed, doesn't he? Back to the hair! It is the hair at the inside of the eyes that I am wondering about. Congrats! Bettyeanne on your dog. That must be a wonderful feeling! Mine could win Best Clown Of The Year! Ha! Am going to the web site above and see what I can learn! Thanks Again All! Pat P.S. Where is the site? Looked above and couldn't find it! Thanks Again |
