Looking For Tips on Grooming Yorkie Myself I am thinking of trimming my furbabies hair myself because I brought him to the groomers last year and they practically chopped off all his hair. I didn't like it at all. So I figured I could give it a shot. Has anyone else cut their yorkies hair themselves? If so I would appreciate any tips you may have for me. Also, I know the groomers cut nails, remove ear hair, and clean ears. Is there anything else I should be doing? |
I just groomed my yorkies for the first time and I love how they turned out. One of them was a little choppy because he wouldn't hold still but I'm sure he'll be better behaved next time. Here is a link I posted of before and after. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74039 I ordered a great grooming yorkie dvd before I tried it. Let me know if you have any questions. |
The key to grooming is the more you do it the better you get at it. Just remember to use good quality clippers, scissors and when using the clippers keep the blades cool or you can give your pup blade burn. While clipping remember to touch the blade to your skin - if it's warm to you - it's warm to them! Use a blade ice to keep it cool. I always say - "You're only 6 weeks away from another bad hair cut" so give it a shot - hair grows back. |
1 Attachment(s) I went ahead and did it. I think it came out pretty good. His ears are a little uneven but now I know I can do it so hopefuly it will be better next time. I have attached a picture. What do you think? Tpaxton23, where did you buy that DVD? I would like to get it as well so I can do better next time. |
Wow, excellent job there!!  |
i had a horrible first experiance with bella getting groomed so from then on i do it. i bought wahl clippers from walmart for like 20 dollars and i do her face with them. they have the attachments so you can make it as long or short as you want and you cant cut them...which is the best part!! hehe....i use a number 4 clipper on bella bc that way it lasts longer...but it is kinda short. if you want pm me yoru email and i can send you a pic of what a number 5 or 6 looks like on the face!! then i just trim around her eyes etc....good luck |

Wow, you did a great job!! He looks adorable. I'm not sure that you need the dvd but if you want it, this is the thread I found it on (look at the first post). I ordered it off ebay from crownroyalyorkies. She had one specifically for yorkies. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=grooming+dvd |
How do you guys hold the dogs in place. Rocky gets jumpy whe I trid to cut the hair around the eyes. remis was a nightmare, he would brak and jump around. |
1 Attachment(s) WOW you did great!!  i just trimmed maggie's face and feet. she does NOT hold still at all!!! but I got it done :) I keep her muzzle short and I have never EVER seen another yorkie cut like that but I think she looks cute. It is certainly not standard of the breed in any way but I do not show her so I just keep it like I like it :) I think it defines her face really well...I'll post pics after her bath :) here is a pic I have posted before and you can see how I keep her face... |
