Going bald from topnot? I feel like such a bad mother. When I was drying Tiffany from her bath tonight I noticed she has lost so much hair on her head. Is it from keeping her hair in a rubberband? You can see her scalp. I am so upset about this... I guess I will just leave her hair down for a while. :( |
Cali is losing hair on her head from that and scratching. I am seriously thinking of cutting her topknot off. I am keeping Pixie's hair on top short and it is so much easier and less messy looking. |
I don't know what to tell you girl, I've not had that problem with Jewelina and she is in a band or clip, something most of the day. I do let her hair down at night. Maybe you could try using a different kind of clip instead of a band next time and see if that helps at all....sorry I couldn't help more. |
Gracie was having the same issue until I stopped using the rubber bands and started using a baby scrunchi. I just wrap it 3 or 4 times so it is snug, but it does not pull on the hair and it does not itch. Another option is the tiny scuncii clips or the metal clips sold at Go Fetch. |
You've gotten some good advice here. I like the ouchless bands. Make sure you aren't wrapping the band around the top knot too tight. Redo it everyday and leaving it off at night is a good idea. I know my head hurts the next day if I sleep with a pony tail in it at night. |
Oh Kristi I'm just now seeing this. So sorry Tiffy is losing her hair :( I sure hope leaving it out some will help. Poor little girl :( |
My yorkie's topknots were thinning too, so now I use little tiny clips to pull their hair up and take them out at night. |
I use ladies pony tail things for mine and it doesnt hurt or rip the hair. It isnt quite as cute as bows but it works well when they are here at home. I use the bows only when they go outside in public. I also take their topknots out every night and redo them when they get their nightly grooming. |
We didn't have a problem with Tatum's topknot until we got Stormie, our Australian Shepherd. They play so hard outside that her hair was breaking off at the base of the topknot. That didn't start until we got Stormie so I'm assuming that's what happened. I stopped putting a topknot in except for special occassions where we go somewhere with her and it's slowly growing long enough again to put it up. I agree... make sure you're not getting it too tight close to the scalp and use the bands that don't pull so much. Good luck! |
i go to the dollar store and buy preemie hair pretties. they have the velcro and stay in nicely. I always take them out at night or the girls pull them out off each other. |
Thanks for all the advice, I will take it out at night now... and I am going to check on some new little baby barettes |
I rarely use bands, i use mini bulldog clips and they dont catch the hair at all, maybe you could switch to these. |
One of my friend's put rubber bands too tight in her yorkie's hair and it ended up not only pulling the hair but it pulled some skin up too. It was pretty nasty looking, but thankfully it healed. I don't think she does that anymore, but it's fine if you're careful (she wasn't). I haven't had any problems yet. I just use the ouchless rubberbands you can get from walmart |
