How far would you go to protect your baby yorkie? 1 Attachment(s) I have been out today and one bigger dog almost bit my Pheoebe. She's only 3 pounds so compared to that dog, very tiny. I was just wondering if this happened to any of you, and what have you done. I was really scared that my baby will get hurt, if not killed. Please see attached her pic.Attachment 107697 |
I dont let big dogs come up to chachi or Jewels. You just never know if they are friendly or not |

Until it actually happens (heaven forbid) I would do just about anything to protect my babies. |
When jazz (my bichon) was just a baby we were at the vets office & there was a mom and her 2 boys and their hamster. well her 2 boys (ages like 4-6) where running around and terrorizing all the dogs! They went up to a golden and starting running around it and really scaring him! the owner walked away so they went after a cocker spaniel, and then a cat.. well naturally the entire vets office was a lil mad and evrey1 was looking at the mom like "HELLOO!!! CONTROL UR KIDS" but she was on her cellphone completly oblivious to what was going on. well the 2 boys came charging at my puppy who was on my lap.. they where yelling something about a lil white rat, and ran up about to pick him up, so i got up, picked up my dog out of their reach. and told the lady that she better control her kids or I WILL! wlell.. i over reacted a little but jazz was just a tiny baby and was very very sick (we later found out he had distemper :( ) and definetly could not handle being tossed around by 2 little kids. Well the lady got off her cell for 2 seconds and said "hey u 2, go play outside" & the kids went to run around outside and that was the last i saw of them, but the entire clinic looked relieved. |
I took all 3 for a walk the other night. I got to the end of the road & thought, What would I do if a big dog came charging? I would do what it takes. I now walk them when hubby is home from work. Having 2 of us to protect 3 little ones is better. |

I was taking Teddy for a walk today and he's 8 lbs. There was a pitbull that came the other direction. Even though he seemed like a nice dog and Teddy was jumping up towards him to say hi I didn't let him get near him because you just never know with those big dogs what they will do. |
Across the street from our condos, is an apt community that allows big dogs, and it seems every tenant has at least 2 pitbulls or rotties. I am always scared when taking them for a walk. My friend will say i am silly if they see me picking up my babies if they are approaching us, but u just never know. And Dior and Diesel my 3 month old maltese are so fearless they think its a play date coming towards us. |
I'd probably protect my furbaby like I did my real babies. I'm a mother tigress when it comes to my babies. I'll step in and put myself between them, and I'll throw punches if necessary. I don't do this consciously. It just happens when my babies are threatened. It's pure instinct. |
Hi, I never let big dogs that I don't know around my babies. However, sometimes things happen when you least expect and I'd get chewed up protecting mine. I look at them like they are my children and I would protect them in the same way. |

I already have done whatever it takes to save my boy Boog...and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I believe in acting now and thinking later because sometimes if you think too long it's too late or you might talk yourself out of acting. |
I am so, so sorry. I had no ideea. Please forgive me...Silly me!Oh, I am so terribly sorry. |

I haven't really had to intervene between Sadie and any other dogs..well, okay, that's not entirely true. Any other BIG dogs, anyway. My parents have a 25-30 lb American Eskimo who's about 4 years old. Hates every other dog he's ever met. Simon had NO friends. LOL But I was really good about socializing Sadie with him from the time I got her, and I don't know if it was because Simon loves me so much and he somehow knew that Sadie was mine, or what...but they are the BEST of friends. I bring her over there so my mom can "sadie-sit" sometimes when I'm working, and it's hilarious to watch these two together. Sadie is allll over him, and he loves every minute of it. He is so gentle with my little monkey. Crazy, huh? On the other hand, our friends have a Boston Terrier puppy, we got them together ONCE (notice I said ONCE) and they were NOT having any of each other. So funny to me how I had to intervene between two little monkeys, but one little monkey with a big boy is fine. Guess it just depends on the dog. LOL |
I would do whatever it takes to keep my babies safe. they are so tiny and sweet, but they do think they weigh 100lbs lol:D I live by some Amish and they think they can chase down the horses so we have to be real careful with that. |
I would do anything. I just want to say that I think everyone is acting a little crazy with the big dog thing. Little dogs can be just as mean and sometimes cause just as much pain to our little guys. I learned my lesson yesterday taking Buddah to the park. A man with a 2 1/6 year old yorkie was walking towards us. He wanted to see Buddah so I walked him over. not thinking too much of it because his dog was LITTLE and a yorkie too I let buddah walk right up. Buddah did his usual full body wag really low to the ground than BAM the other dog attacked! Buddah wasn't too hurt but he did get a little puncture wound and it really shook him up. It was really scary for me too. I was like lightening though I swooped buddah up and even got a little taste of the attack myself. I couldnt beleive after that the guy blamed it on Buddah! However the 150lb Great Dane and his 95lb rotty brother that we met at the dog beach were delightful. :) it just goes to show that any dog can be aggressive no matter the size. |
I would do anything within my power to protect my little guy. A couple times bigger dogs have started running towards us and I was so scared...luckily they stopped and went back. One time I screamed and the owner said it wouldn't hurt him...how could I know that though. If they hadn't stopped I would have thrown myself on top of my baby. |
i woud risk getting bitten if i see a dog charging at my helpless furbabby and he wants to be friends with everydog he sees |
I would do whatever it took to protect my 2 babies. My yard is fenced in and in the country, so I don't have to walk them around a neighborhood, but I have a pistol license and even in my backyard I carry a gun when they're out playing. There are coyotes, hawks, owls, bobcats, and foxes where I live and I would shoot any of them if they came after my babies |
We have a housboat on the missouri river. Often when we are out on sandbars there are other dogs out there. My husband and others think I am kinda nuts the way I protect my yorkies. They always say 'just let them go..they'll be fine' HA I DON'T THINK SO!!! I have heard horror stories of a big dog killing other dogs out there... I would go crazy!! I know of a family that watched in horror two summers ago at an Eagle swooped down and took their chihuahua!!! The mom and kids were horrified!! Needless to say, my little ones DO NOT run around on their own!! |
I would do whatever I had to and pay for damages later. There's a big dog living on our floor who barks and lunges for Max whenever he sees him. I pick Max up when I see them and walk away immediately. His owner has tried to set up a schedule as to when we walk them so that they don't meet up. She's trying, but I don't want to stick to her dog's schedule. He's a rescue and who knows what happened in his life. I met them yesterday without Max around and he was very friendly. I'm going to try to get to know him better so that maybe he and Max can end up playing. In the meantime, I don't let him near Max. Judy |

It's lovely to see how many of us will protect these babies as we would protect any other member of our family. Big hugs for you. |
If someone hurt my Rocky?? I would break their face, with my fists. |
i wouldn't hesitate to fight off a bigger dog from my yorkies! people who can't control their dogs shouldn't have any pets at all !! get some pepper spray or a big walking stick! |
When I was 5 yrs old I was attacked by a large stray dog and my father just about killed it. The dog was biting him too but he kept punching it. So I have a shining example of what I may need to do to protect my little ones and wouldn't hesitate to suffer pain for them. I'm not a great swimmer but I would jump right in after them if they fell in a body of water. They truly are my little girls. |
