Pet friendly airlines?? We are about to book a flight to NY for Mid May and wondering if you could help us decide which airline to fly. We want to take Maggie so I need to know what your experiences were...which airlines are the most pet friendly?? I refuse to leave her home :) Thanks a TON!!!!!! |
I'm flying on Wednesday with 4 month old Izzie on Midwest airlines. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm confident that it's going to be a fun experience. I'm not sure if they fly to NY though... Don't forget about the health certificate from the vet, just in case they actually do ask for it! :) (I just picked mine up today) |
We are leaving Wed. for San Antonio on AA. It will be Jaxon's 1st flight, too! It costs 80. each way & he counts as one of my carry ons-Don't you think he should get 2 carry ons since we are paying for him too! I also got my state health certificate in case they ask for it. I had a decent experience with NWA (northwest airlines). Nothing fancy, but no challenges either! |
I've flown AA, Northwest, US Air, Continental, Delta and Air Tran. I have to say I like Air Tran the best and never had a problem with them. I don't know if it's still the same as last year but you don't need a HC and it's 50 bucks each way. |

I think Jetblue is good and allows dogs. I have a free flight to use from them and I heard they allow dogs on with you. |
hubby is going to die when i tell him it costs that much for her to fly with us :) oh well, i really don't want to leave her behind. just not comfortable with leaving her yet. thanks for all the input...i'll check into it. I am anxious to know how your flights go...please keep us updated on that!!!!! |
They told me at the airport that the only time you need a health certificate is if your going outside the US. Also make sure when you book your flight, you let them know you will have a dog with you because the airlines only let a couple of dogs on the plane at a time, so if there are already two other dogs booked on that flight, you may have to change flights. |

I had a Sherpa bag and it was just wonderful. Health certificate, check in at the counter to show papers, etc. When you cross security, you will have to remove the pup from the bag, and agents will want to feel her to insure there are no drugs, etc. You will carry the dog through security, not in the bag. Make sure to include treats, wet cloth for cleaning, and line your bag with puppy liners. Don't forget to ask the flight attendant for their wings. Have fun. |
See threads to your question. Most airlines are very friendly as long as your don't take the dog out of the bag. The carrier has to fit under the seat, and usually no one even knows there is a pet onboard. I would always downplay that Sophie was in my bag because some passengers are allergic to animals and can be disagreeable. She began traveling when she was just a wee pup, and the longest flight she had was six hours. |
