Cats and Yorkies I know many of you also have cats. I just recently got my Howie who is 9 months old. Howie has discovered my cats litter box. Every chance he gets when he thinks we are not watching he digs for a prize! I scoop every chance I get. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? Thanks for any help. |
My cat's litter box is downstairs and the room it is in is baby-gated. Milo can jump/climb the gate, Sasha can't. However, sasha is still small. As she gets bigger, I donno if she'll be able to jump the gate or not. It's a tall enough gate that I whack my knees on it all the time, who knows if she'll be able to make it over. |
This was just discussed about 2 weeks ago. You should do a search as I believe there were 20 something replies as to what others do. My litter box sits in the laundry room on top of the dryer. The kittens can get up there just fine but no dogs. |
I missed that one. I will do a search. Thanks. |
Try using a covered litter box. For some reason Gracie has never tried to go in there. |
I turned my litterbox backwards and Grayson hasn't figured to jump on the cat carrier to get in front of it. You can also try a baby gate or move your litter box higher like on the dryer. This has been helpful to me http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...=4&SourceID=47 |
We have 2 cats and yes, the babies have discovered cat poop! :p We broke Zeus of this a long time ago, but little Enja hasn't quite given it up yet! She's getting better though. I know it's gross!! |
Thanks for the help. I have another question. Howie seems to prefer the cats food too. Is it bad for him? |

Gracie loves kitty kibble. I give her one every now and then. It is too high in fat for long term use! |
I keep my litter box on a "special" table my husband built that sits roughly 30 inches tall and he cant jump up there. I keep their food up even higher. Poor cats, I hope they don't get athritus in their old age or something and cant jump anymore  |
We just broke Percy of this habit. There is an awesome thread about a natural mixture you can make at home to make the cat poop taste icky to them. I think it is in the heath section.. We put the cats bowls up a little higher. We actually just got a high feeder that you would use for a big dog. The cats can still reach up there, but Percy is too short. :D |
Thanks so much everyone. I will search for that thread!:) |
I dont know if this helps but my dogs never go near the litter box, they could care less about it. But... now my neighbor has a ton of cats that roam the town and they use my yard as their toilet and my dogs go nuts and try and find that poop. I feel like Im out there gaurding the area making sure they dont touch it, when they are outside. I know for a fact my neighbor doesnt feed a high quailty cat food and those brands are full of junk and Im sure some of that junk comes out in their poop. Now my cat on the other hand eats a very high quailty cat food and there is no junk in it and its not in her poop and my dogs dont touch her poop. I dont know if this is the reason why But I have a feeling it is from my research. |
sorry i don't owe any cats...but my babies do use a cat litter box...when the weather does not permit them to go outside...keke |
