New Yorkie Mommy!! Hi there! I've been lurking at the forum for about a day now, and I just wanted to say hi and to introduce myself and my baby, Sadie. Sadie will be six months old tomorrow, and is just the cutest thing (I'm sure we all think that about ours!). I'm 24 and recently bought a condo with my boyfriend....three months in, he decided that we HAD to have a dog, and I told him the only dog I would have was a Yorkie, and good luck finding one around here....well, two days later, we brought Sadie home. :) We went about it the not-so-wonderful way, and picked her up from a pet store. I know that puppies from pet stores are mostly from "puppy mills," and after doing some research, I'm sure that Sadie came from one...but she hasn't had major behavioral problems for a puppy, and I just love her to bits- just because she came from some unfortunate circumstances doesn't mean she doesn't deserve a home too, right? Like I said, we live in a condo, on the bottom floor, so the outside training thing just was not easy in the winter; especially since we got her at 12 weeks and the poor thing would shake like crazy outside in the New England winter...so we did the pee pee pad thing, and it's going well. I would say she's about 85% pee-pee pad trained...for pee, anyway. Poop, that's a different story. We've just recently started taking her outside, and it's not going well. I am getting a little nervous, especially since we both work full-time, but with consistency, I know she'll get it eventually, I'm patient, and she's good with the pad anyway, so.... My main concern is this: has anyone ever had any problems with their puppies eating their poop? It is SO disgusting. We have to catch her right after she's done it, or she'll eat it real quick and we won't even know she went. How horrendous. I have researched why she does this, and can't find much help. I hope I'm not the only one who's had this problem...I'll feel awful. LOL Sorry this post took so long to make my point, but like I said, I wanted to introduce you to me and Sadie; this is a wonderful place for talking about our babies! (I have to admit, I'm a little obsessed and I think all my friends are getting graciously annoyed with the constant Sadie-isms. Ha-ha!) |
Welcome to you & Sadie. I can't wait to see pictures. I have a puppymill baby also, but couldn't love her any less. I just will never go that route again. I hate to think one penny went to support that crap. My next baby will be well planned and researched. |
Thanks Cheryle! I know what you mean about puppy mills; we got her papers and everything and brought her home frome the store, and I looked at the papers and say on the top it said "Harte" (I think that's the name), so I googled it....and my heart sunk. That said; I couldn't love Sadie any less, either, she's a good girl and SUCH a cuddle-bug! I'll post pictures soon; how exactly do you do that? LOL Post in your profile or signature or what? Thanks again for the welcome :) |
:welcome4: We love to see pictures around here! There was a thread not too long ago about poop-eating. It seems that it's not uncommon with our furbabies, mine included.:tounge6: |
My Punkin eats poop too. I spoke to the vet and he says either she will grow out of it or I can buy some stuff from them to sprinkle on their food then when it comes out in doodoo form it will be repulsive to them. Not sure if he meant smell or taste. Its all so gross. |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on getting your yorkie baby!! I can't help with your problem, but just wanted to welcome you. Please share some pictures of your furbaby :) |
Welcome to YT any pics?? |
Welcome, welcome to YT! To add pictures, look down at the bottom when you're posting and there'll be a place for attachments...that's how you do it! We can't wait to see pics of Miss Sadie! |
Picture upload problems I was trying to post pictures, but the file sizes are all too big for this forum! Ahhh! |
Ok, got one at least.... Well, I figured out how to put one in my profile....that's the baby when she was probably 2 or 3 months old... :) |
Nevermind, I don't get it. LOL |
Welcome to YT! I have 2 little Yorkie girls and have fostered Yorkies for rescues. Most the rescue dogs eat the feces - I've heard so many suggestions as to why they do but the simple fact is we humans find it totally disgusting! :sickie: Some of the rescues I finally broke of eating their feces but only by completely housebreaking them. I take them outside to potty on a leash and when they do poop get them away from it immediately. I never say NO or even draw attention to it just lead them away. Once I take them back inside I go out and clean up. It took some time but once they realize it isnt necessary for them to "get rid" of their own feces they quit eating it. I tried some of the spray on remedies but they never worked for me. Best of luck! And YES mill babies need good parents too! They didnt ask to be born into such horrible conditions - but it is up to all of us to be diligent about researching where our pups come from and help close down those nasty places by writing our congressmen/women. |
Wait, I did it! Ha-ha, can you tell I'm new to this? I guess the picture next to my name worked...I thought it didn't because it said "upload failed." But there she is. :) Close up, huh? LOL If we were to do it over again, I definitely would have researched it more; I guess I was kind of naive in not automatically assuming that puppies from stores usually came from puppy mills....I definitely wish we had gotten her from a reputable breeder because the more I learned about mills, the angrier I got...but I guess we wouldn't have gotten Sadie specifically if we had gone the other way, I love my puppy...she is the apple of my eye, I take her everywhere...and her best friend is a 35-lb American Eskimo who is SO gentle with her, isn't that nuts? Watching them play is just adorable. I am so surprised at how gutsy this little 4-lb thing is. She's not scared of ANYTHING! |
Well let me be the first to say that she is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! I love her dark face. Do you think it will stay dark like that? Breath taking. |
Welcome!!! She is a cutie!! |
