help biting pebbles just started biting the wall tonight. I guess she was bored even though she had like 20 toys. What can I do especially that I was not at home. HELP! |
Cocoa chews the wall too... Cocoa does exactly the same thing too!! He started doing so since he was 11 weeks. (He's now about 5 and a half months.) I have no idea why he does that, but he seems to enjoy biting out the wall a lot. :( He just starts right in the middle of the wall the flat surface should make it almost impossible to chew on. :confused: I wonder if it's because he's teething or he just likes the taste. :eek: Anyway, whenever I catch him chewing the wall, I took him away from the wall, say "No" firmly and soak the area with Bitter Apple. At first (right after I soak the area), he'd try to go back and chew the wall again, but the Bitter Apple deters him. It seems to work because Cocoa would not go back and chew on that area again even days afterwards. Of course, there are still other areas of the wall for him to chew on... I just soak the area with Bitter Apple whenever I notice that he's starting on a new area. Come to think of it, he hasn't done that for about 3 weeks now. Hopefully he's got the idea or just grew out of it soon... :) |
I think they have sprays that you can get at the pet store to deter them from chewing on things that are "off-limits." I used one of these apple bitter sprays with my cats years and years ago when they were eating mt houseplants and it worked. You just sray it on whatever you don't want them to chew and when they see that it tastes yucky, they will leave it alone. It may be worth a shot! |

When Peanut started exhibiting this wonderful behavior, I used Bitter Apple spray and it curbed the problem almost immediately. He went over to the wall just after I sprayed it, gave it a lick, and never touched it again! I have used this spray on several items with great results, including the corner of the couch, the wall, and any electrical cords within his reach (and those just outside it!). Its really simple to use - just point and spray. :) |
I think they start it when they are teething. Pirogue used to chew up my shoes. I started getting those rawhide chew sticks and if they start chewing on anything I give them one and they forget about my shoes and other stuff. I do know they like to chew on wood, so I use the bitter apple spray on anything I find or hear being chewed. They go back to the chews when they can't chew my wood. |

Biting the walls When they were puppies, mine found the wallpaper especially fun. Fortunately I had some extra so my hubby fixed the wall. I heard Bitter Apple was good, which several posters have mentioned. I just want to add my Yorkie Handbook tells me not to let yorkies have a zillion toys, it is better for them to have only 3 or so at a time. Just food for thought....as I kick the zillion I have myself across the floor. |
