Gracie & her collar :aimeeyork Thanks for all of the suggestions!!! I have had 4 yorkies in my life with baby Gracie as the newest edition to our family.............so I am aware of using a harness for walks...which I do use on my 4 year old, Charly.........I actually did buy Gracie a harness....hates that too:rolleyes: ..........I know that I should ignore her behavior but she goes as far as having looses stools!!! from nerves:2omg: she actually acts like she can't lift her head up........finds the nearest baseboard & hugs it then plops down & quivers!!! maybe 2 minutes @ a time is the answer.............for days?????;) |
well just introduce it to her slowly and work it for longer times each time you do she'll get the hang of it :) |
hmm, maybe try something lighter like a piece of string at first (under supervision of course) and then work your way up to the collar? |
4 Attachment(s) Try buying a harness like I did. My girls love them. They hated the old fashioned kind, they would lay on the floor & shake & not want to go for walks. Now they love going. |
My girls like their harness I think it makes them feel safe |
Yep, i'd go with 2 minutes at a time and see if she'll eat a goody for you. If she'll eat, i'd say she's giving mommy a serious guilt trip. ;) If she won't eat, she's definitely scared. Use a piece of string as was suggested and just hold her or sit where she's comfortable. Walk around with her like nothing is wrong, no big deal, everything is normal. Only push her for as long as she's doing well. End the session on a good note and do it maybe twice a day. Don't tell her to come before putting it on, just go get her so she doesn't make any associations. Don't ask her to do anything with it on yet either. Try to distract her so she doesn't think about it and do something fun! She'll get used to it soon enough. :) |
Izzie is almost 4 months old and hasn't quite gotten used the harness yet. I bought the smallest size available and it's still a bit big. She likes to chew on it! :D I put one of her little sweatshirts over the harness that has a hole through it. She seemed a lot more comfortable with the sweatshirt on. If your puppy is comfortable with clothes, maybe you could get her an outfit with a D-ring attached... |
Give her tiny bits of her favorite treat all the while of putting the harness on. The cloth harnesses just velcro at the neck and breast, and are very quickly put on and she will think she's wearing a shirt. |
