Should I Get A Yorkie??? It's probably just "pre-puppy jitters", but I've been reading some real sad stories lately about these little ones getting sick and dying very young and I'm worried. My breeder does not want her pups to go till they've had two sets of shots, which I fully agree with and this is not a kennel environment that I'll be getting my puppy from, so that makes me feel good, but I still worry, should I be? |
I think the stories of the tradgedies jump out at us and we remember them more. Percentagewise, I think most yorkies are healthy. Your breeder sounds good. Have you asked about genetic defects in any of her previous litters? |
If you search through here you will find that there are a ton more happy tails than sad tails. Its just that everyone here shares thier sorrows and triumphs. ANd the sorrows stand out more. |

No, I haven't. I'm thinking this might be her second litter ever, since she's told me how old the male and female are (they are both her pets). I am just assuming that all went well. Thanks! |

Thanks, I think that's what I've been doing, just hearing all the sad stories seems to stick with me alot longer than the happy ones. I hope to share lots of happy ones when I get my Yorkie!!!! |
All dogs can be sick and tragedies may occur in all the breeds . No matter if it is a Yorkie or a Great Dane . The are all living creatures . |
I agree there are problems with any breed you might get. I think that's why it's so important to learn everything you can about a breed, and there are a lot of people here that have opened my eyes, and I've only been here two days. |
When are you supposed to get your baby? I think it is good to realize all the things that can happen, what to watch out for. You do want to feel that this is the dog that will fit into your lifestyle. My friend wanted a Jack Russell Terrier. We sat here and did some research and found they were wild jumpers, overactive pups. She decided this was not the dog she would love long term. Now we are trying to find a dog more suited to them. Maybe a fox terrier. Maybe a Yorkie (she doesn't want to spend that much money). |
