Question about puppy weights My Mom is wanting to get a little Pap. She wants it to be around 5 lbs. She has went and seen a few but thinks that the pups already looked to big. I told her to go buy a digital scale and take it with her. Do you think that is rude? If she shows up to look at little Pap puppies and then whips out her scale? I told her about the Yorkie charts for weight and would assume those could apply to little Paps also. Any thoughts on this? |
LOL, I think it's kind of funny but who cares.... A lot of people lie about the weight of their puppies. So if you know what you want....you should be picky. Just keep in mind that growths all vary...so if the puppy weighs lil now...he/she could grow to be bigger than 5 lbs!! It's good to have a scale anyways to note their weight progress |
I told her about the weights and no guarantees. But last weekend she said she went and looked at a little girl Pap and could tell the pup had to weigh at least 3 lbs. and some ounces. No way would this baby stay at the 5 lb. range. I also told her to try and see both parents. That would help some more. Thanks for the reply. I probably should have posted this on off topic. Sorry. |
i don't see a problem with that...i am a breeder...i have a digital scale also..and if the buyer wants to see the current weight i have no problem with it... i don't want to lie to my buyers..good luck with that! |
Haha....I dont think it would be too weird.....but I dont really know if you can totally go by what they weigh now because mine were way smaller than some at a certain age and theirs turned out to be smaller than mine....Louie was exactly 2lbs at 18 wks....and is now 5 to 6 lb range and Bella was 1lb. 6oz. at 13 weeks and is also 5 to 6 lb range.....others on here have babies that were bigger than mine at those ages and are now only like 3 to 4 lbs.....soooooo I guess you just never know. |
pup weights Hi, My Mya is 5 lbs. 14 oz at 13 wks old! Her mum is 6 lbs and dad is 7 lbs., so she will probably outwieigh them both, she is healthy and happy and beautifil! It doesn't really matter how big they get if they are happy and healthy! She is solid as a rock, and pins her mum down without a problem...luv them all big or small! Lia and Mya':aimeeyork s mum |
 Yay another big baby!! I agree, no matter the size, the love they give weighs tons lol. |
you also have to consider the stucture. my kirby is 5.9lbs and is almost twice the size of muffy who is 8lbs. kirby is longer in the legs and lenght. also, kiby had a date with a girl who was 8lbs and she was smaller than muffie. she was very compact. i could have sworn this little girl was 4lbs. i think if you are looking at weight, it can be very deceiving compared to the stucture of the body. if you want a small dog, you need to go by sturcture, not weight |
You're right....structure is everything....Sammie is 2 pounds but he looks like he's one pound. The second you pick him up though, you realize the weight is all in his chubby lil belly |
