Will it stay fresh? So my father in law is going to Corpus Christi this weekend and he is going to be a darling and bring me back some Chicken Food Dog food for Gizmoon his way back, however... all they have in stock is the 18lb bag and the special for that right now is Buy one get one FREE! So I would buy 1 18lb bag and get another 18lb FREE! My question is ..since Gizmo is only 4lbs of looooooove...lol and (1) 5lb bag lasts him at least 3months do you think the remainder of the bag I open will go bad? I would assume the other "free bag" would be ok as long as it is kept sealed right?  ... So that is my question... OHHH and they only have puppy left he will be 2 years old in July.... is that bad for him? |
bump... |
i would check the expiration dates on the bags. Maybe you could share some of the food with a shelter since 19 lbs is alot of food for a little pup. |

Put any open bags in the freezer! I bought Tatum a 20 lb. bag of Innova this time instead of the usual 5 lb. one because the only store around me that carries it is so out of the way that it's a pain to go to. I just put 5 lbs of it in the container I keep in a cabinet and the then taped up the bag real good and put it in the outside freezer. |
That is a lot of food for your little one. Someone else suggested donating food to a local shelter or rescue maybe? I know that fats can go bad in foods so be careful. |
thanks...I was thinking that too... I would think if the expiration date on the bag is in like 2009 and it is unopened it should be ok right? |
now would the fact that it's puppy food be bad for him since he is 1 1/2yrs ? |

I feed all 4 of mine the Chicken soup and they love it. I have recently switched from the puppy to the adult food and there isn't to much difference between the two. The puppy food is 4% higher in protein if I remember right and it probably has higher calories. If your little guy is not overweight then I don't think it would be a problem to feed him the puppy. The puppy food has smaller kibbles and I actually liked it better but one of my guys is a little pig and is starting to have a weight problem so I knew I had to switch. I bet he'll love it. |
