Second Yorkie- puppy or grown? Everything looks like at the end of summer I can be looking into getting a Yorkie girl!! :happyboun Now, I have been wondering if it's better to get a puppy or an older one, Pepper will be over a year old by then and he's 6 lbs. I wouldn't want too big of a difference in sizes as it would make me nervous while they play... That's why no tinies, as much as they are very very cute. Puppy stage is adorable but then you never know what size they will end up being, it is also hard, I honestly enjoy Pep more now that he's older, calmer and smarter. It seemed he only slept and pooped for the first few months but on the other had, it's easier to train them and get them used to the routine when they are that young... Or is it? I'm waiting for comments on both sides, when you adopt a slightly older pup (6 months to 1-1.5 year in age), do they get as attached as when you get a puppy that's 10 weeks old or so? I have a lot of love for 2 pups and I know Pepper would love a playmate :) |
I have done both. Adopted from puppy/kittenhood and adopted adults. It really all depends on the love that the animal rec'd before they come to you. My Chin was already 9 mos. when we got him. He fit right in as if he had been there forever. Believe it or not but my Bijou (puppymill baby) was the hardest to adapt. I have such a wild and crazy house and it appears she was used to very little human interaction and noise, other than kennel noises. I guess I am one of those old school people where anything is cured with enough love. |
Everyone is getting new furbabies! Spring is in the air. I am happy Buddy can't read or he would be mad that he dosen't have a sibling.:D I have said to myself if I were to get another it would most definately be an older one. Possibly 1yr or older. I myself could never go through the puppy stage again living in a condo. It was hard and stressfull but it did pay off I will admitt. Yes, an older dog will adjust very nicely to a new home. I had rescues who were 1 and 2 and within a couple of days it were as if they lived with me forever. They know who loves them! Good luck in your decision. |
I had Cali who was 18 months old in January and Maya my 10 year old pom and had been looking for an older puppy for awhile when I found Pixie from Stardust Yorkies. She was 13 months okd and 3 lbs and a silky coat exactly what I was looking for. I am so happy with her. She wasn't housebroken but within 2 weeks she was using the pads consistantly. She fit in and adjusted immediatley. She was in the playpen at night for a total of 2 nights and then ended in my bed on the 3rd night and that's where she remains. I like getting the older one because I didn't want to go thru all the puppy stages although cute it is a lot of work, no chewing , she was spayed and dental done and I knew exactly what I was getting. I will probably do the same for my next one. Getting too old for puppy stages!!!lol Just call Breeders who are showing and you will usually find one that kept a dog for showing or breeding that didn't work out for showing. |
