Things I Need To Know Before and After Neutering Jeremiah is going to be neutered on June 10. And I am worried that I don't know something I am suppose to. My dad made the appointment for me before I knew I had him. I can pick him up on the same day. Is there some reactions or something I need to know about neutering? |
Make sure they do the blood panel before the surgery, this will ensure that he has no reaction to the anesthesia. Find out what type of anesthesia they will be using- Iso Only. Ask them if they can remove any teeth during the surgery that he hasnt already lost. That way he will most likely not have to go under again to have any teeth removed. Ask them to use the smallest tube possible so as not to damage the trachea when intubating. I can't think of anything else.... |
Make sure no eating or drinking after midnight. Make sure he has a quite place to sleep when you get him back. Watch him carefully the first few days to make sure he doesn't tear the stitches Oh, check with vet to see if they are the type that desolve or do you have to take him back to remove the stitches. |
Thanks! I was worried for a moment. |
Great point about the incision site... My vet used the dermabond which is human grade superglue to close Tino's incision and I didnt know that when he was down there that he was actually licking off the glue! I had to take him in the next day to have him glued shut again! Just make sure that you can watch him really closely for the first few days so he doesnt get his incision open. Also you have to keep an eye on him to make sure that he doesnt jump around. I had Tino's surgery done on a Thursday and took Friday off to be home with him over the weekend. |
