Nuetering will not help at this age....he'll continue to mark territory...even though he's house broken, he'll continue to mark....you may have to resort to a belly band to save your furniture......You can attempt trying tell him NO every time you catch him, and that may help. |
Train Him Not to? IMO.......you should get him Neutered if you do not intend on Breeding him? No offense but "Marking Territory" in your "House"? I would not allow it, not only for the obvious reasons but that is also a sign of a "Power Struggle" between the 2 of you. At 18 months he's "Dominated" your House by Marking. I have had up to 5 Yorkies @ one time; 2 males and 3 females, now I have 1 male and 2 females. Other than being "House Broken" from using the Bathroom indoors? There's a big difference from peeing and marking! He will be a more stable boy if you get him Neutered, not to mention all the health benefits and it's definitely an "Attitude" adjuster w/o all the Hormones ruling his behavior? No, it won't stop him from marking b/c an operation is not going to change what you have allowed him to do for 18 months in 1 day? You have to train him to "Stop"? Please don't get offended in any way by my post? Male Yorkies have big EGOS! I think it's called "Napoleon Complex" a big Dog in a little body. There are more benefits to "Neutering" than not having it done. Good Luck |
JMO here, but I got my little male Jap. Chin at 9 mos. He was marking all over the place (probably why his last owner's wanted him gone). I had him fixed and it didn't help at all. He wears belly bands when he is in the house now. No choice. And yes, he did gain almost a pound once I had him neutered. |
sorry i should have made myself clear i've only had henry for 1 week. i adopted him from a lady that was moving and could not take him with her. thanks for the advise. |
I would get him neutered because there are health benefits to it. It probably wont help with the marking though and your gonna have to get bellybands |

Be consistant with him and please neuter him. Long term it's in both your best interest to do so. Good Luck! :animal-pa |
