Heat cycle questions I'm thinking I want a lil girl more than a lil boy- but I'm still tossed. I'm not looking to breed- we've just never dealt with a heat cycle and want to know all I need to know. How often do they go in heat? How long does a cycle last? Is their cycle heavy enough they need special panties? Is spaying an option to avoid cycles? Anything else I missed? |
They usually come into season twice a year, at roughly 6 month intervals, though it isn't set in stone as each bitch has her own rhythm. A season lasts roughly 3 weeks, though again it can vary a little. Some bitches have quite heavy seasons, others lighter ones as far as actual discharge goes. I know I keep repeating myself but they can vary quite a bit. Some bitches you hardly know are in season, they have light bleeds & keep themselves very clean. Others can be really heavy, too much for them to keep completely clean & can stain furnishings. One of mine has such heavy discharge that she sometimes drips. Spaying will completely stop her having seasons, as they completely remove the womb there is nothing to discharge from. It's exactly the same as when a woman has a hysterectomy, no more periods. |
