Jessy pregnant ?? Little Jessy was on heat for the first time now. The first time I saw her and the male together was on the 17th May, last day I saw was 25 May. Will that be the first day to count for her pregnancy ?? She only weighs 1.8kgs. How many days normally for the pregnancy ? When will the vet be able to tell if she is pregnant and maybe how many babies ? Anything NOT to DO now ?? :confused: |
Jessy Hello...count 63 days from the first breeding..but pups can come a few days early, so watch her closely after 56 days. Feed her puppy food, but do not over feed. Let you vet know you have bred her and do any xray around 50/55 days. Does anyone know how to convert weight...Gina gave me a site for this, can't find it right now...not sure her weight in pounds/ounces. kEEP US UPDATED. |
1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds 1 kilogram = 35.2739619 ounces so it seems your gal weighs 3.25 lbs or 53 oz... please be very careful that is a very small baby to be breeding, how large was your male you bred her to? |

Thanx you gals. Yes I also got hold of a chart and yeh ur correct. I did take her to the vet in teh mean time and he also suggested puppy food. I bought Eukanuba for now. The vet knows me well and also knows that my little ones are very very special to me. When one of my previous yorkies died because of a snake bite het sent me a sympathy card and flowers. U also asked re the size of the male. He weighs 1,5kgs and that is +/- 3,3pounds . The books that I've read suggest that the male should be smaller than the female. I will keep you posted on her health. Is the first time babies ussually a difficult birth ?? If she goes for a ceasar the first time will she be able to give normal birth later if I decided to let her have anothe litter ? If she is going to have any tiny little bit of struggle with this pregnancy, I will not let her have another one. She is toooo precious for me. |
My little girl just had her first babies on day 60 from first time I saw them tie. I thought her personality changed right away, and she threw up on my son's bed at about 1 week. At five weeks she looked like she swallowed a football. She had five, delivered them all herself and did a beautiful job. She is a great mother. I watched her carefully the entire time, she always seemed healthy and fine. Same now. If you have the male, that was our biggest problem - at about week6 they started fighting and we have had to completely separate them. The babies will be one week tomorrow and she started playing with her brother yesterday (as long as he is not in our room.) She doesn't let any cats or Bronx in there. She is letting any human come to see the puppies, she jumps up and down and smiles really big. She is getting back to her old self and it is wonderful. Good luck to you and little Jessy. I also started giving her puppy food, and about 5 weeks, a tablespoon of cottage cheese and 3 tablespoons of goats milk (replacement puppy milk). She still seems a little thin. |
Jessy Take it week by week...ask the vet for an xray..if there is one large pup, you may want to plan a section. Don't over feed her..keep us up to date. |
Pat: I got a three-year old Yorkie five weeks ago. She weighs 5 and a half pounds. When I first got her, she dropped down to five pounds which I assume was due to all the anxiety of a new home and surroundings. Now, she is almost up to six pounds. I can't get anyone to tell me how much to feed her. I don't want her to get fat, but she looks real healthy now. Before, I felt she looked too skinny. I feed her once in the AM and once in the PM. She has about 9 pieces of hard food in her dish at all times, but does not eat it unless she is hungry and it is nearing dinner time. For the twice daily meals I feed her about 12 pieces of hard food, and 1/4 cup of soft canned food, plus torn up lettuce or carrots. She also gets a few treats each day, and five cheerios. And, once a week she gets a scrambled egg. How often can she eat eggs? She is not a fan of hard food, but is getting better at eating it. Am I feeding her OK - too much or too little. feeding Your words are kind and appreciated. You say she looks much better then when you got her, so it sounds like the right amount. I would keep the soft (canned) to a minium. Cheerios and veggies are good treats without adding weight. A bit of egg once in awhile is fine...take her for walks and exercise and she should be just fine. If her weight does incrase too much....extra treats are the first thing to cut out. Best wishes |
