what to feed after neuter? Howie is getting neutered on Friday (and still debating if any baby teeth should be pulled). What do you feed them afterwards, especially if they've had teeth pulled? I'm kind of iffy about buying soft canned foods because of the recall so I'd maybe rather make him something. I've fed him rice and boiled chicken breast before (when I've had it available) and he enjoyed that. Should I feed him that? What about making it soupy? Is adding broth okay? Any info would be great. I'm really really nervous!!! |
Chicken and riice is fine and so is the broth. Try not to be nervous I am sure he will be fine. When chachi was neutered he had 4 teeth pulled and I left his hard food out and he ate it but He also gets moist everyday anyway |
all of mine that had baby teeth pulled ate the dry kibble as normal. no special treatment at all. they did great. he will not feel much like eating right away anyhow. let us know how he does. I am sure he will be fine. hugs to him. |
thank you!! i'm trying to get off of work early in case he can go home early, but that may not be an option because of big meetings going on. :( but i hope! i'll leave him with kibble and see how he does, but i'll have the rice and chicken just in case. my howie!! i'm always so worried about him but thank you for all the reassurance. |
When I got Toby neutered he also had to have baby teeth removed. I went to the extent of getting him baby food and feeding it to him by spoon and I must say he ate off of the spoon better than most toddlers do. He finished his entire jar of chicken so I set him down and what does he do? He runs over and starts chomping down his hard kibble. Moral of the story....the neuter and the teeth pulling is way worse on us than it is on them. lol...Good luck with your little guy he'll be in our thoughts. |
Adonis was neutered this past Friday and had a retained baby tooth removed. I went to Petsmart, and they said they'd taked all the "affected canned food" off the shelf. I don't remember what brand I bought though, but only got one can of it. Today he started eating his dry food. Also with the neuter, watch close for them licking the wound. If they lick, it WILL get infected. Today I'm going back and forth between the e-collar and doggie diaper, and picked up antibiodics for him. He won't quit licking unless he KNOWS I'm watching him. I feel like such a mean mommie. Someone in another section said her vet gave them something to spray on the wound that made it taste yucky, to deter them from licking. |
My little guy had to have 7 teeth pulled ( ) during his neuter. They sent him home with some pain meds. He was sleepy when he first came home, but by the next morning when he woke up, he was digging in his dry kibble munching away. I was all worried he wouldn't be able to eat either, and had some wet food on hand. Go figure wolfed his food right up. |
Princeton got neutered a few weeks ago and also had 6 retained baby teeth removed. He ate a little that day about 4 hours later. I bought him Merricks puppy canned food and hand fed him some. The next day he acted fine and gave him soft canned food for a few days with a little cottage cheese. I had to keep him in the x-pen so he would not rupture his sutures by jumping and playing. It is amazing how fast they feel better especially if you are given him pain meds. Be sure to watch that he doesn't get to rambunctious. They also did internal sutures so he was fine without an e-collar. |
