OK, here's my solution - and no, mine won't go out in the rain either! I have a covered porch, concrete, but neither wanted to "go" on the concrete, so I bought some cheap outdoor carpet samples at home depot. I put them down at the end of the porch and they will "go" on them. Of course, I have to put an old chair down there so that Rowdy will have something to "pee" on :rolleyes: Rex, on the other hand is not a marker and will "go" in one spot till he is empty. Rowdy has to pee on every chair leg. Anyway, after a few rains, I just through out the piece of carpet and put down a new one. Now, tell me this, why won't they go outside on the porch (no carpet) when they (really just Rowdy) will "go" inside sometimes??? (sigh) They have me wrapped around their paws! :p |
We have a townhouse so there isn't a covered porch or anything. I taught Loki to go in the rain by carrying him to the middle of the lawn. If I let him out by himself or set him on the sidewalk he would just run right back in the house. By taking him out to the middle he had to walk 5 feet on the grass to get back in the house anyway, so I guess he figured he might as well pee while he was out there. Every time he tried to come back without peeing I took him right back to the middle of the lawn. Yes, I got wet, but he figured it out. On stormy days I still have to give him a little encouragement, but he'll run out there fast and do his thing. I also spent some time (on a nice day) teaching him it was OK to pee in the mulch next to the door, so he didn't have to go all the way out to the lawn. |
you can get her rainboots & a raincoat she should be find if not you can put out puppy pads and my babies are able to use them if they aren't able to go out and we live in townhomes as well. i hope that this helps ;) |
And all the time I thought Jaden was the only one who refused to step on anything wet...pavement, grass, etc. I actually have Jaden trained to a use a grass litter box indoors called a petapotty. It works great for us! :thumbup: |
Our girls also hate going potty in the rain. My solution was to put down a pee pad in the garage, which they happily use and stay dry and warm at the same time!!! It also means Mommy does not have to stand shivering in the winter rain, waiting for her little darlin's to go pee etc. I have used this method for years, and even had a doggie door installed from our house to the garage. In summer it is "boarded up", so they know to go outside. If you live in an apartment building, if there is a basement garage, this method could still work, especially if it is really cold outside. Just make sure you clean up the poops...:D |

This one loves the rain Cupcake loves the rain, but she is an ususal yorkie to begin with. She was potty trained in two days. Maybe offer treats. Since she loves the rain, so it is very hard to get her out of the rain. As soon as she goes I offer a treat. So now she knows, if she hurrys up and pees, she will great a treat. I hope this helps |

Also, for those of you in apts etc that have basement access why couldn't you use piddle pads there? If you pick up anything they leave behind, I don't see the problem. You could leave a stash of pads there for convenience. For many, many years I've used pads in our attached garage and with some of our wild weather I have been so thankful that we went that route. We just use them at night and in inclement weather. In the daytime when it's nice we go outside. |

Skippy doesn't even like to stand on wet grass, so rain is definetly out. I take him on the pool take under the overhang, and he'll go there. |
