The Good and the Bad? Hello all!! :) Im new here and Ive been seriously thinking for about 6 months or so about getting a yorkie. But the thing is that I dont know if i want a boy or a girl. I would like a boy but I hear their harder to potty train, and a little more stubborn. :thumbdown And I want to dress him up, I know there are alot of cute clothes for boy dogs but there are sooooooooo many super duper really extra cute clothes and stuff for girls. But the thing about girls that I dont really know about is when they go into heat and if they bleed alot or not. I have thought and thought and thought some more but I still have no earthly idea. SO if yall could, please give me the good and the bad things about boy and girl pups. I would really appreciate it!! Thanx Brandi :D |
I have a boy - Peanut - and I LOVE him!! He is 99% potty trained @ 5 months old, so I haven't really had problems in that regard. As far as clothing goes, there is a ton more stuff for girls, but there is cute stuff for boys too you just may have to look a little harder for it. I get teased about this all the time, but Peanut has his own section of our hallway closet for his clothes. He has several t-shirts, some polo shirts, a hawaiian shirt, and several bandanas. I have not had a girl, so I can't really tell you if he is more stubborn than a girl, but he definitely has a mind of his own sometimes. I have heard from several other YTers that boys can actually be more affectionate than girls, so that is another thing to consider. My opinion is obviously biased, but I say get a boy! :D Either way, you will love having a Yorkie! They are the best! :animal-sm For some more info too, there was a thread on this topic a few days ago too: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7174 Hope this helps! :) |
this thread should answer your questions!http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7109 just for the record i love boys!and they are not harder to train.. to me it all depends on the dog. |
This is such a tough question!!! I can only speak from my experience.... I wanted a male and Tino is now a year old. I have never had any trouble potty training him to go on his pads in the house. After about 4 days he was pretty much totally potty trained and never has accidents. He is almost a year old and doesnt even lift his leg and he doesnt mark anywhere. And as far as the humping habit... he restricts it soley to his duck. My little boy has the absolutle sweetest most loving personality. He wants to be whereever mommy is. He loves to lay in my lap while I'm on the computer or curl up on the couch and watch a movie... he's just a little snugglebug! And I do dress him up! There are a lot more clothes for boys out there than you think... you just have to look a little harder. I decided to get Tino a friend bc I felt bad anytime I left him. Everyone told me that I should get a female bc with two boy Tino could start marking if the little one ever started lifting his leg. So I decided to get Bunny and we've only had her for 6 weeks, but she is WAY more dominant and bossy than Tino ever could have imagined being. She bosses all of us around and she only weighs 2lbs! She is a lot more independent and although she's a mommy's girl and wants to be held, she is not as much of a lap dog as Tino is. Don't get me wrong, I love my feisty little Diva Bunny, but I too just love that sweet male nature! Good Luck! |
Forgot about the stubborn part.... I think yorkies in general have that reputation and are to a certain extent, but my male is not a dog I would consider stubborn....its my little girl that is stubborn as heck! If I ask her to "stop" or say "No!" She tosses her head right at me and barks right in my face! She is so defiant! So again, in my experience, I think the females are more stubborn! |
Good luck with your new baby...boy or girl! I can only speak from my own experience and I only have a boy. He is very difficult to housebreak and he is almost 4 months old, but he makes up for it in affection! He actually gets offended if I don't stop what I am doing and pick him up! I wanted a lap baby and I definitely got one! Also, I dress him up all of the time! Just be consistent, or they won't get used to it. I put a clear tear free rubber band in Rocky's hair when I had him for about a week, just to get him used to his bow. He fought it at first, but I didn't give in, lol. Now he is used to it. Boy or girl, you will have a blast! |
Thanx!! Thank yall for the repiles, I am leaning alot more towards a boy. I have always had boy dogs, so I guess it just natural to love boys. But then again I just love boys period!! ;) I would hane more than likely gone with a boy, I have heard that they are alot more affectionate than girls. Thats what I want too, a pup who wants to be held, babied and just plain spoiled rotten. I was just considering a girl because Ive never had one. But if yall say that girls are the more stubborn sex then I will definetly go for a boy, cause I have enough attitude for everyone! Well Thanx |
