Question about 6 month old males???
 
Ok, my girl is in heat (came in yesterday) I have a 6 mo male. My question is can a 6 mo male get a female pregnant?? so I know to seperate them. :D

Yes..it is possible for a 6 mo male to sire a litter..not the norm, but happens.

YES! When I was in high school my Mom's 5.5 month old Mimi American Eskimo got my 1 yr old Shih Tzu pregnant! We had NO CLUE he could do that so young. Once they get locked together there is NOTHING you can do either. They were stuck for a long time and had puppies 2 months later. My Shih Tzu was too young I think. But she has 5 healthy puppies who are all safe and healthy to this day. My friends from high school all adopted them!!

OMG!! when do I need to seperate them? I don't know a whole lot about heat cycles in dogs, I know they bleed then they can get pregnant then they bleed again. Anyone know about the heat cycles in dogs??? Thanks to all of you that have answered, very helpful.:)

I would suggest for you to keep them apart starting now.....the females usually won't accept the male until around the 9 day of heat but some people don't even notice when their dog started the heat cycle so that can be a problem . Also you can look for signs , when the female is ready she will lift her tail and allowed the male to mount her but you do not want to get to that point.

I forgot to mention that the heat cycle starts with the bleeding but decreases with the days until there is no more blood then they are ready to mate .
