Our vet has an AWESOME daycare/boarding program. Keeley LOVES to go to daycare, and we take him a few times a week because he loves it SO MUCH ! (If you mention the word "daycare" to Keeley he starts running around the house and waiting at the door). Then when we go on vacation we leave him there. We know the staff really well and they know us and Keeley well. So we feel extremely comfortable leaving him there. They love him so much that they will take pics of him when he is there playing with the other pups and give them to us when we pick him up. It took us going to EVERY boarding vet/center in the town until we found one that we LOVED. And so we picked them to be our vet, our babysitter, and our daycare. I suggest to go check out different kennels/boarding and if there is one you feel comfortable with you can go there. If you are as lucky as we are, you can find someone who will make your yorkie glad to be left behind. |
We are debating the same issue right now. My extended family is meeting up at a house at the beach for a week. We couldn't be picky and hold out for a pet friendly house due to needing an elevator for my nephew in a wheel chair. I am looking into having one of my coworkers stay at the house for the week or looking for a place to board or a doggy daycare near us at the beach so that I can still spend time with them. Since we are driving only about three hours away, bringing them with us isn't an issue. |
They stay with my mom or daughter. We have a travel trailer so they always go with us when are in the RV - but we do travel some where they can't go. They love their gramma or sissy :D I would only board them as a last resort..... :( if I absolutely HAD to travel without them and they could not stay with gramma or sissy. |
What do you do with your dogs I have boarded my dogs at the vet, however, they have to be in kennels and my dogs are not used to it. My female was totally stressed out from it. I have found a kennel which will let them stay in a larger stall together. One thing I like about this kennel is they are separated by a cement block wall, and no dogs ever come in contact with each other nose to nose. They also are let out 4 times a day in a gated and wooden fenced yard. It's important to ask the kennel if animals are separated at all times by a wall, so they don't urinate on each other. |
I board my boys. We are lucky to have a great place here in town- TailWaggers... they love it there. They go for doggy daycare there as well. They get reports and everything. I call and check on them everyday when they are there tho... |
My mom always babysits her "grandbabies!" :p |
I am going to Disney World, and then to Destin. I can't take Hannah with me. My mom or my sister can not keep her due to allergies. The only other family that could keep her have big dogs in the house and I don't trust that. I was thinking of having a couple young girls that I work with stay, but I don't know if I really trust them to take care of my house (wild parties, smoking) and they will need to follow specific instructions with Hannah and I am not sure that they would do that. I am afraid that even though I ask them not to they may have a few people over and maybe someone would step on Hannah (crazy scenerios go through my mind). But I think that it would be best for Hannah to stay at her own house and also I know that she could go outside in the fenced back yard to play and be safe. There is another girl that I would trust and she does not work outside the home but she lives a couple cities away and I am just afraid that she will somehow get out the door and run away. I am so worried. My daughter is graduating from high school and she wants to go to Disney World and so I am going to take her to Disney World and Destin but I am so worried about Hannah. I really don't want to put her in a kennel because she has never been away from me and I think she would not cope well there. |
I have never left my girl at home or with anyone. I always bring her with me everywhere.. |
I just came back from DisneyWorld and I was so lucky because my neighbor offered to watch my babies in my home, by that I mean she lives next door and would come and feed my babies and play with them, she even made sure that if they had any accidents she cleaned up:rolleyes: My babies got to stay home:rolleyes: She did say Tinkerbell was not coming out the 1st day:( but soon she was ok:rolleyes: My poor little angel missed me:( I think next time I might just bring them along:rolleyes: |

We haven't gone anywhere since we started getting our furbabies a year ago. Although I did go up to disney with my sister for a weekend, hubby stayed home to watch the kids. Maybe someone on YT lives close enough to disney to watch her while your having fun in the park. Then you can bring her along. I'm 3 hours away, so I'm not close enough. |

The size is the Yorkies' big advantage here.... If going anywhere for a weekend, we take Peppi with. There are so many pet-friendly hotels around that it's not really a problem. This June, however, hubby and I are going for a 3-day trip to Florida and can't take the dog. My friend offered to watch Pepper for me, but I was already looking for a boarding facility/daycare for him. I wouldn't want to leave him longer than 2-3 days though and if we ever plan a longer trip, I'll include the dog. |
My husband and I are going to Italy for 25 days this summer. We knew this before we got Tia, and I was really thinking of buying our Yorkie after we got back....but I'm glad we didn't wait (imagine all those days without having Tia in my life! What a waste!) My friend who LOOOOVES dogs will watch her at her house. She has a Bichon named Ruby. Ruby and Tia are best buds. I'm sure Tia will miss us for a day or two, and then will have a blast with my friend and Ruby! I however am gonig to miss her a lot...but like a previous poster said, our lives can't stop. She will be in the best care possible. I would like to bring Tia with us, except that we are going to a small town and there are a lot of strays and "community" dogs, and I don't want Tia to get sick with anything. I would rather miss her for a while than have anything happen to her that could put her health or life at risk. |
I have family around me that babysits for me. Sometimes if you ask your vet they can give you some good recommendations. |
