Problem yorkies...wipe bum Hi there I have a problem and I am not sure if this is common in yorkshire terriers, but here it goes. I have two yorkies and every single time after they've had a poop they wipe their bums on the carpet, sometimes even if they haven't had a poop. Cn anyone tell me if this is normal? I have read on a maltese forum that they have to have their anal glands expressed. What does that mean and is this true? Would appreciate any responses please |
I havent done this myself but yes they probably need their anal glands squeezed. I have heard people on here say they have done it themselves, but i think its probably better to have the vet or groomer do it. There is some liquid that gets built up in there and it can be uncomfy for them. |
I agree, they probably need their anal glands squeezed. |
It could also be an indication of worms. |
How old are they? My vet said as long as they stop after a certain age it isn't a problem. My pup is now almost 6mo and he used to do it everyday since I got him at 16weeks, but when he hit about 5months he stopped. |
Wow! There is so much to know when it comes to raising these babies!:D I did not know this stuff! Great info!;) |
They are 12 weeks old now. Thanks everyone for your answears. |
very informative !! :D i just thought since they aren't able to wipe their bootie w/ toilet paper they might have a wet one and they knoe that its stuck their bootie so they wipe it on the floor...*shugs* |
romeo - 8 weeks tmr!:D - did this a couple of days last week and then stopped just as suddenly! |
That's good...hopefully mine will stop as well. I bet he's a cutie. |
Been to the vet and had their anal glands expressed. They still do it tho?!?! |
