Head pressing liver shunt question Has anyone had a dog with liver shunt exhibiting symptons of head pressing? Can you describe it for me? Or maybe you know someone who has described this to you about their liver shunt baby. I can not find this information on the internet  |
They'll press their head up against furniture or the wall or the floor...My yorkie has a liver shunt, so if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Many times, head pressing will happen after eating. There are also several people on here who also have furbabies with liver shunts that will be able to answer your questions as well. |
Do they just randomly press their heads. I am trying to visualize this and it made me think of this weird thing TJ does... Just out of the blue he will either rub the sides of his face on the carpet, or furniture, pillows, etc.. He will then press his head into it and start franticly digging. Is this some bizzare behavior he has or should I worry about this? |
He will press his head against furniture, walls, the floor. Also, he will walk/run along the side of the furniture pressing his head up against it. |
I will keep Miko in my prays, the little fellow is so lucky to have a Great Momma like you! :) |
Thank you so much! That's very sweet :) |
i just read this post and now im extremely worried. both my yorkies show signs of "head pressing" =( my oldest yorkie who is 2 likes to rub his face on carpets. there are no carpets/rugs around my house except the playroom. when he gets the chance to go into the playroom he always like to rub his body and face into the carpet. i always thought it was because he has an itch and he's trying to scratch it. i sometimes see him rub his face along the couch (again i thought he's rubbing his eyes or something).. my lil one who just turned one does something different. she sometimes rubs her head onto pillows as if she's trying to take something off her head. are these definite signs of liver shunt? is it curable? and is this life threatening? |
Some Yorkies or dogs will rub their faces along the pillows , couch or what ever they can find to just wipe their face and or eyes or to get an itch, Just like they lay on their backs and roll scatching their backs, it does not mean that your dog has liver shunt. most dogs do this, But if they are pressing their heads then I would have them checked. My little male Yorkie rubs his face on every thing cause he has wet eyes. |
i don't think my dogs have liver shunt then. because i read some info on google and the symptoms dont apply to my babies (thank god!). |
*shugs* we don't any problems w/ our babies i'm sowie i couldn't help ya !! :( |
Don't get worried! Sometimes dogs just do like to itch themselves like that or dry their eyes like YorkieShadow said. Head pressing usually happens after a meal if it's related to liver shunt. I'm sure your babies are fine, but like YorkieShadow said, if you're worried, take them to the vet. |
