HELP..i have to leave louie hi all....i need some help quick. louie is my adorable 8 month old 3lb baby. i got him when he was 4 months old and have never left him home alone. he comes EVERYWHERE with me. well, the problem is that i have to leave him home alone to go to my daughters graduation in 2 weeks....it will probobly be a few hrs. i really dont know how he will react because as it is he is ALWAYS by my side....he follows me all over the house and really doesnt seem to like to be alone. any advise on how to make me and louie comfortable with this seperation would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance all! tami  |
I suppose since you have two weeks left you might want to try short periods of time of leaving him alone before the big day. Start out slow... 15-20 min and then work it up to a couple hours... Maybe you don't even have to leave your house in the beginning. Just confine him to a different room on the opposite side of the house. Or maybe if you have some yard work that you can do outside for a few minutes at a time.... |

Yes, just make little quick trips to the store for only 10 minutes or so and see how he'll react. He probably will be so happy when you come home it will make you feel guilty :( but if you do it a little at a time he'll always know that you'll return. Can you have someon maybe check on him while your at your daughters graduation? That might ease your worries...Theresa & The Boys :aimeeyork |
When I started leaving Gazou alone . I started by only going out the door and listening if he was crying and then I started for longer time . This way it can be done in two weeks . |
Thank you all thank you all so much for your advice....I am going to give this a try starting today. I think it will probobly be harder for me than it will be for him. Im just sick at the thought that he will think that I have abandoned him. Its hard to remember that these cute little babies are actually dogs and not real human babies. :aimeeyork thanks again, i will let you know how it goes tami |
My little guy, 6 months old is home all day while I am at work. This is about 9 hours a day. It was hard at first. Now...he is fine. No problems at all. He doesn't even look out the window when I leave anymore!!!! :) I must say...I miss that. Some helpful tips... Before actually leaving the house for 10 minutes, just go outside where he can't see you for about 10 minutes. If he cries...do not go in! Ignore him. Once he stops after the 10 minute period, go in and give him a treat. Next time, try it for 20 minutes outside leaving him indoors. Again, if he is crying at 20 minutes...don't go in until he stops (you don't want him to get the habit of crying and getting your attention). Then I would suggest leaving the house for 30 minutes and returning with a treat for him. He will learn that being left alone is not a bad thing and can sometimes be rewarding!!! Leave tons of toys out. Turn the radio on. He will be just fine. You might want to practice this more often, so that when you are away from home and have to leave him he will not have seperation anxiety. Not healthy for him or you! Good luck |
Nanny You can hire a pet nanny to watch him in your house., |
I think it's good for him to be ABLE to be alone without you.. like a baby needs to feel safe away from their mom. This is probably a good thing in the long run for both of you. A few hours isn't a long time... and when you leave, he'll probably cry for a while, give up, and sleep. Good luck. Part of any companionship is times together and times apart. YOU CAN DO IT! |
