bath time is frustration I have given our 12 wk old yorkie 3 baths now & it turns into a battle to keep her in the water. I have a mat for the bottom of the tub, water just up to her knees or less. She is just so afraid & trying to escape from me constantly. Trying to soothe her by calmly talking to her doesn't do any good. She just seems really afraid of the water & it really makes me sad that I can't seem to calm her down. I would sure appreciate hearing ideas on how to conquer this fear of Lexie's. Elcameno |
I think all puppies are scared of first baths! :) Why not try using the sink instead.. its much smaller and maybe she can feel more secure.. Also you could try giving her some treats and more words of encouragement, like "good girl!" :) |
I give Skippy his bath in the sink all the time. This way he can look around and see what's going on.;) |
I Agree The Sink Is Best - The Bath Must Be Sooooooo Scary For Such A Little One..... I Bath Harvey In The Sink And He Is Ok. |
I agree, the sink is ideal - it's also much easier on your back! (No leaning over the tub!) Both Oscar and Ruthie were complete boobs about being bathed but over time they've just adjusted. I used to have to hold Oscar with one hand while trying to wash him with the other - now he'll just stand there for me. Ruthie would struggle so hard and WHINE to get out of the sink - you'd think I was killing her! But even she has gotten much better and no longer whines or struggles. Just keep with it - they'll get used to it! Continue to talk calmly to her. Try to be as quick about it as possible. I don't know if you have a sprayer for your sink (you can buy one cheap that will attach to your faucet) but maybe that would be better than putting her into a sink filled with water? Plus I find the sprayer helps get the suds out! Good luck! Keep with it! |
yeah, mine eventually just freezes there, like she's in shock, i feel so bad... when i tried the sink, she would jump out --so be careful if you do the sink, or grow two more arms! they are sneaky! and slippery when wet |
I guess I'm thw only one who likes the bath best. Trying in the sink is crazy. He just tries to jump out and splashes water everywhere. In the bath I fill it up to his tummy and plop him in. he doesnt really like it and tries to escape but the wall of the tub is too big for him to jump out of. Sometimes I take Buddah in the shower with me he just runs around the bottom and i think he feels better because im in there with him. |
