Matty at 3 weeks. 5 Attachment(s) Here's some pics of Matty she turned 3 weeks yesterday. She weighs 1.3# The last pic is of Mr. Big pouncing on her trying to get her to play. She's the only living thing in the house smaller than he is. Sylvia Ok, they are out of order, the second one is of Mr. Big. |
Matty Matty is a sweetheart..looking forward to seeing more photo's...are you keeping her? |
So Cute Matty is very cute. Just a quick question though is 1.3# a pretty average weight for a 3 week old? I'm getting my puppy the end of July and she's going to be three weeks old on Monday, so I'm really curious about the size thing. |
Sylvia - she is a total PORKER ! I looooove baby pictures ! |
So cute and tiny!! |

Pat, no, she's going to dad's owner. Since brother died and there were only 2 she said that she'd give a free breeding if I chose to give her Matty. She's already chosen a name "Lady Di". Sunnyd, LOL No, she's not typical at all. I don't think many parents of their sizes (dad 3#, and mom 6.2#) usually see little porkers this size. This is my first Yorkie "litter" but I think she's awfully big for 3 weeks. Villette, how far from the Missouri border do you live? |
HOW PRECIOUS! She must be eating good off of momma! LOVE IT!!! :D |
Matty is adorable. Very cute. |
Damn, my pups are gonna be monster sized lol. Precious is 1.5, Yoda is 1.7 and Bandit is 1.8 pounds. They are 22 days old. |
Heather: I nearly spit when I read that. LOL You have to remember the parents and grandparents sizes and the greatgrandparents if you can find all that out. Willie, Matty's dad, is 3# but his parents as far as I can find out are around 5#. He was the runt of his litter, I don't remember how many there were, and the owners thot he wasn't going to make it and gave him to his present owner who nursed him to health. This lady raises 2 different types of bull dogs and didn't plan on getting a Yorkie so she didn't do any research or ask enough questions of the parents owners. I was only a month old Yorkie owner when I bought Lady, I had done some research but not enough. I didn't ask, demand, the answers about Lady's history. I was just too excited. Pirogue was 8 weeks when I got him and I wanted a female that would be in her second heat by the time he was ready. I had been shopping but older females are few and far between so when I found her and she was 4 mos older than he, I grabbed her. I realized much later that the lady didn't answer my questions about Lady's background. So what I'm saying is I don't think Matty has any choice but to be a bigger Yorkie, how big I don't know. I can assume that Lady's parents are about the same size as she is but they could both be 8#. From the looks of her Matty IS NOT going to be less than 5# and that is conservative. If you know some of the sizes in your mom and dads background you can make a guess as to how big the babies will be when they are grown. If I were keeping Matty to sell she would be, in my opinion, the perfect size for a family with children. I copied out one of those weight charts and set up a file in Excel so I can keep track of her weight at what week. As of this past Wed. she was off the chart!! LOL It says she'll be over 6#. I do keep in mind that she is carrying a lot, a lot of baby fat and growing fast because she is the only one eating mama's rich milk. I think she might finish at her mom's weight, 6.2 before she got pg. Now, Mr. Big and Lacijo, are 5th generation smalls. I'm not sure what that means in the weights of grandparents and greatgrandparents, but dad is 2 3/4# and mom is 3#, oh the other mom is 3# too. They are half siblings by their father. Lacijo is 3.3# and 7mo. I don't think she'll make 4#, but who knows? Mr. Big is 4mo and weighs 2.15. If he is going to stablize at his dad's weight it means he won't be getting any bigger just gaining weight. I couldn't get close to his dad, he was in with another female, but he has lots and lots of hair, so he looks bigger than he really is. Mr. Big's mom wasn't much bigger than he was the first time I saw him at 8 weeks and the breeder said he weighed 8oz. If you would like to see what their parents look like go to this site: http://myahs-yorkies.tripod.com/myahsyorkies/id1.html Rip is the father of both of them and Raisen is Lacijo's mom, Gracie is Mr. Big's mom. I can't remember what size Autumn's parents were but she weighed 1.7 when I got her at 10weeks, she weighs 5.6 now. Sylvia |

I really have no clue what the parents looks like of either one. Angel is normally around 5-6 pounds, and Prince is almost 9 pounds. I figured that the puppies would be a bit larger due to the size of Prince, and that's ok...I don't mind. Im just wondering if they are gonna be bigger then their daddy lol |
size Size is hard to predict so soon...before weaning they can look like beached whales..then slim down so fast. When there is only one or two in a litter they get so fat they can not walk until a few days into weaning. You will get a much better idea at 8 weeks.. |
Mine are already weaning. I know it's young but I don't have a choice. Angel no longer wants to feed them (except in the middle of the night). So, every 2 hours I go in there with some purina puppy chow all mushed up (with milk replacer mixed in) and they chow down. In the past few days I have made it thicker and thicker. Now its the consistancy of canned cat food...if that makes sense. I've been weighing them daily and they are still gaining weight. So far so good. I've noticed changes in them as well. They are now developing personalities. Precious seems to be the alpha of the 3. She jumps on the boys and tries to bite their faces lol. She pushes them around and growles before pouncing. SO CUTE! |
Heather, I didn't realize our babies were so close in age. Matty was born on May 4, what day were your babies born on? Lady doesn't spend much time with Matty either. I worry a little about her getting cold but I figure that a dog has better instincts than humans so if Lady's not worried about it, then I will just keep a check on Matty for my own satisfaction. I want to put Matty in a dog bed so she can get in and out by herself but she's so small I'm afraid she'll get where someone will step on her. I think I'll go get one of those colapsable(sp?) pens to put her in. Hubby says where will you put it? We are limited on space around here. I think I'll take the box out of the closet and put a palet down for her, with newspapers on the floor and put the pen around it. Matty is waddling around now and I want to put food (canned) out for her but I'm afraid Lady will gobble it all down. I've had mothers do that, and it seemed like it was just to keep it away from the babies not because they wanted or needed it. I don't worry about Matty getting enough to eat with only one, but if we get her out of the box Lady is right there trying to take care of her. Hubby took her out to play with her today and handed her to me, all the dogs came to see her and I guess they sniffed her wrong and I got peed on, and it wasn't just a little, she let it all go. |
Angel's puppies were born on May 5th. The first one came at 1:00am on the dot. All the puppies are walking, though they get wobbly at times. Angel also tried to eat their food but I dont let her. I take the plate of food and put it in the whelping box with the puppies. While they are eating, I hold Angel so she cannot eat their food, or, I close her out of the room while they eat. Once they are full, I let her eat the leftovers. This seems to keep her pretty happy. Do you use a heating pad? I still have the heating pad in the whelping box for them. They seem to like it. |
Heather Matty ate her first food today. I used canned and added water to it. She seems to like it pretty well. She didn't eat much for her first time but I think that makes sense. She too is walking pretty well. I had to clip her nails the other day because she was sticking to everything. She's getting to be a real little person! I never used the heating pad, my room is the warmest in the house and I figured since no air circulates thru my closet it should be warm enough, but I keep an eye on her just to be safe. She's begun barking and growling. This morning she was even howling. Lady was in with her so at first I just thot maybe they were playing. She howled again a little later and I picked her up and thot she looked a little thinner than she has been and decided to give her some real food. It's been so long since I had puppies that I can't remember how the mom's acted. But I think if the babies are to be weened at around 6weeks then at 3 weeks things should start to slow down. Boy, it seems way, way too soon. Lady doesn't seem to have as much milk as I think she should have for one baby. But if weening time is getting near that makes sense too. Sylvia |
Matty is just adorable |
