I need advice!!! 2 boys better than one boy, one girl?? I'm getting another Yorkie this Saturday and I am faced with a major dilemma!!! I have a boy right now, 13 weeks. Should I get another boy or a girl? I don't want two boys to become territorial and start marking everywhere since my 13 week old is completely potty trained! Then again, I don't want my boy to start humping the little girl. This litter is going to be smaller than Sammie I have now (who will grow to be 4 pounds, estimate) I know a lot of you have two yorkies!! Please share with me your experiences! HELP!!!! Thanks guys...I appreciate it! |
If you get both males, make sure that you have them neutered as soon as possible. They probably won't go through the marking issues that un-neutered males do. |
Here is a good article to read... http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...113&A=1009&S=1 I had 2 girls (Sammi and Sophia) and they definetly did not get along as well as Sophia and Jake do...But that could just be personalities...I am really not 100% sure... Good Luck! |
Male/Female are supposed to be the best match because of the natural 'chemistry'.. then male/male... If your boy is fixed, then I wouldn't worry too much about him humping her. I had Oscar first and then brought Ruthie home (Oscar was neutered before she came along) - he hasn't humped her once. She humps him sometimes though :D. It really depends on what you prefer - bringing any new dog into the house could result in your male changing his behavior suddenly and starting to mark in the house etc. You just never really know. |
I like a girl and a boy |
We have 2 (neutered) males that are about 6 months apart and they are inseperable. They do everything together and since they're both neutered we have no marking issues to deal with. They share everything and they don't fight...neither one of them really has an alpha personality so they get along perfectly. |
I brought Poli home, him and Rosi where together for 2 1/2 mo. before he was neuterd and i did not have a problem with him humping her. :D |
I have male and female. I am so glad I did it this way. They both have different personalities that make them each special. TJ is more alpha over Roxy. That's the only thing that I hate. Roxy is very shy, but she was like that from the day I got her. TJ and Roxy came from the same breeder. They have the same father, but different mothers. Roxy is actually 2 months older than TJ. TJ was neutered at 7 months. He marks outside only. But so does Roxy, she is actually a MAD MARKER hahahaha  I did catch TJ trying to do 'the bad thing' to Roxy. Just a couple of times, but I think that was him telling her that he is the boss of the house hahahaha  But they each would be lost without the other one. For instance...Roxy had to have LP surgery 2x last year. Each time, she was overnight at the hospital for 3 days. Well, TJ was soooooooooooooo sad, that he went on a POOP STRIKE. Seriously, NO POOP for 3 days. I had to make an appt. for an enima if he didn't go by the 4th day. When I brought Roxy home that 3rd night, he was soooooooooooooo happy to see her and within 10 mins. of kissing her and smelling to make sure she was ok, he pooped - thank goodness, b/c I really didn't want him to get an enima! Best of Luck! |
I have a boy now, he's 11 months. I don't know when I'm going to get another one, I know that's not gonna happen soon, but when the time comes I want to get a girl :) |

I have a boy and a girl and I love it that way. He has never humped her but she has tried to hump him a couple times. I love having both, I can dress her up and he is so much fun to play with and play fetch with. |

It's Kimmie again !! I think getting 2 different sex would be better due to the fact that the same sex tend to be competitive and aggressive towards one another. My mommy Lilly and daughter daisy seem to alwayz fight since they are both aggressive and they both want to be the alpha-dog in the household. So i have to keep them away from eachother for that reason. And sister Daisy and Brother Max get along way better than Daisy and her momma. But Max is a male and he's more aggressive towards her than his momma and daddy. Plus having a girl you are able to dress them up all kootie in dresses and put her hair up in a topknot !! ;) i didn't knoe that you were planning on getting another one so soon !! 2 puppies in the house is hard to train due to the fact that whatever good habits sammie has the new puppy will follow but any bad habits he has the new puppy will pick up as well.:aimeeyork i hope that helps you in your decision !! make sure to give me an update once you get him/her on saturday !! take kare hun xoxoxo <3 Kimmie |
The "experts" seem to be in agreement that it's better to have different sexed dogs in the same house despite the fact that many YT'ers have had good experiences with same-sex dogs. Fran's article from veterinarypartner.com was a good one. Here is another from the same site. (The whole site is excellent, BTW, for those of you who haven't found it yet). http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...=883&SourceID= Most sources will tell you that these combinations go from best to worst: male/female mix 2 males 2 females Good luck! |
