Puppy Necessities? I posted earlier today that I'm picking Chloe up on Thursday and I'm just wondering what kind of puppy necessities I need to pick up for her. She's 4 months old and weighs 2lbs 2oz. I have a bed and food/water dishes. I haven't picked up food, yet, because I need to find out what the breeder has been feeding her so I don't change her food to quickly. Thanks! :) |
I think you should ask what the breeder will have for you. My breeder gave me food, water (if you are traveling to different area, ask them to give you a bottle of water for your pup...), toy... I had a blanket... a carrier (because I flew) and.. Nutrical..... etc.. |

We're local so I doubt she'll be giving me anything other than a food sample (she hasn't told me she's going to give me this, but I assume she will). |
First of all, CONGRATS!!! Before I got Sammie (who's 13 weeks)....I got: - Puppy pads (started training him right away at 9 weeks and he is completely potty trained now indoors (it's cold in Philly so we have him "litter box" trained inside) - Stuffed animals - a clock that ticks (I know this sounds bizzare but it helps with the separation anxiety because it sounds like a heartbeat and your puppy will think it's siblings are near) - Nutrical or honey nut cheerios or maple syrup (they have hypoglycemia at this age so you need to make sure their blood sugar is up) - Have something that smells like you in his bed like your pillow case, socks, etc. (if he's sleeping separately) HAVE FUN!! you are going to love your new yorkie...they are the greatest, sweetest lil dogs ever and they will do anything to please you |
Food, peepads, a baby blanket, a dog bed, bowls, acrate, shampoo, nutrical |
I remember when I flew to TN. to get Zada. I brought the carrier, two blankets, two wee-wee pads, two sweaters and soft toy and a chewy. The breeder gave me lots of things too including Nutri-Stat which is about the same as Nutri-Cal. You could bring some bottled water and small dish and put a wee-wee pad down on the crate pad and give her a little bone. I'm getting excited all over again. :D |
Usually breeders (good ones) have puppy pack.. kinda thing... Mine even gave me a blanket that Haruka was using.. So she has easier time getting used to my house... |
toys, lots of toys, like a kong or something to keep them occupied - if you are going to crate train, good idea to go ahead and get that or maybe some baby gates -to help keep them in or out-of areas. also-no one told me this, but a harness is good, that way you can leash them up and keep them with you while you're doing dishes etc and you'll ALWAYS know what they are doing! I would definately recommend the nutrical, that way, if you notice she isnt eating, you can give her a bit of this stuff and it will help keep her sugar levels up. The breeder may give you some of this also-some do, some dont. My baby didnt want the blanket /towel I had bought her, she went for my fleece blanket, and a cardboard box ?-so not everything has to be just perfect, it's like a kid that way I guess. :) |
