Weird dreams?
 

Last night my b/f and I were sitting on the couch and Rocco was sleeping on my lap. He was kicking his back leg and his lip was curling up, like a twitch :confused: When I pet him he didn't wake up, but I looked at his eyes and they were closed but looked like he was having rapid eye movement. Only when I tried to pick him up did he wake up and look at me like "Whatcha do that for mom?"
Do dogs have deep sleep? I don't remember how deeply Coco used to sleep but this pup sleeps real deep. Very few things wake him up. Even when I try to move him from his sleeping spot, like to remove or place him on my lap, he wakes up but is very limp and sleepy. When I pick him up he's up and going but it seems he's a deep sleeper. Did your puppies sleep like this and have weird twitches in their sleep? :confused: I remember Coco used to make funny sounds and shake her leg when she used to sleep and I'm sure he's fine, I'm just being paranoid. You forget how the other pup was before. He eats great, drinks fine, pees, poops and is active, but I was just curious to see if anyone else remembers their pup being this way.

Codie is STILL that wa. He sleeps DEEPLY ... so deeply that a few times I thought he was dead! The worst time was about a year ago. Codie was in a DEEP sleep on my lap. I picked him up (to move him on the couch so that I could go in the bathroom) and he was limp and lifeless ... he head was rolled to the side. I shook him a few times and he didn't even budge. I SCREAMED for Jim and starting balling my eyes out. Jim ran in, grabbed Codie and shook him for what seemed like hours but it was probablly only 5 or 6 seconds and then he woke up and sort of looked at us like, "Geez Mom and Dad, why did you wake me?" LOL :D

But still that really SCARED me. I couldn't stop crying a for few minutes and I held/squeezed him so tightly (poor guy lol).

Poor Codie..lol..But I don't blame you I would have been scared too. Me and you are sooooo the same Jen, always worrying. Well I read this in an article about the difference between seizures and deep sleep. I copied this little piece which was I think the most important:
"...Then there are those dogs who twitch or paddle their legs while sleeping. Some will even vocalize. This is especially common in young puppies although many older dogs show similar behavior. This is normal and is usually associated with very deep sleep. Folklore has it that dogs paddling their legs during sleep are dreaming of running through an open field. Who knows? At any rate, it's not a seizure.
The biggest difference between seizures and non-seizures is the dog's state of consciousness. If a dog is doing something that resembles a seizure while conscious, is aware of its surroundings, or is easily aroused (as in sleep), it is not having a true seizure."

I think Coco used to sleep really deep as a pup and do the same thing, I'm just forgetting. It's not any less worry-some or easier the second time around..lol..I think they probably just wear each other out and he's a deep sleepin puppy. I just worry too much.

Hallie is like that every night :) She has a hard time FALLING asleep and would stay awake all night if I would. Once she's asleep though, she is snoring, barking, growling, chasing things and never wakes up. I swear one night I think she was playing with her toys in her sleep :)

Hehe how cute! Yea I was all scared that he was having a seizure or something. Cause Coco wakes up when you so much as look at her while she sleeps. I do remember her being super sleepy and sleeping a lot when she was a puppy. But tihs guy was REALLY into his dream..lol

When their eyes twitch real fast that is normal it is REM sleep. Humans do it too. I freaked out when I saw my Daughter do it as a baby so I asked the doctor and thats what he told me

Yea it's kind of scary but it seems like even though you know this stuff, all reason and education escapes you when you get worried or scared :rolleyes:

My baby (12 weeks), Coco, does the same thing. she looks like she is dead or in a coma. Scares me to death...... I think she just plays hard and sleeps even harder. It's rough bullying her big brother :)
