Question for those with more then one yorkie I thought I posted this already--but I can't find it anywhere--- I have been thinking about getting a second Yorkie for awhile now, and recently I have really felt like it is the right time to add another puppy to our little family. So here is my question- Does your yorkie(s) still snuggle and love on you? Or are they preoccupied with having a friend to snuggle and play with? I have a friend who has 2 small dogs (not yorkies) and she says since getting a 2nd she has been really left out and her "lap dog" has become so excited to have a friend that her dog doesn't care that much about her anymore. Anyone have the same issues? I'd like to hear your stories and opinions please. (Sorry if I did already post this- I can't find it!) |
Ours is the complete opposite. They fight for lap time! Well, not really fight but I have 2 on my lap and one snuggled up next to me. If one moves off, the next one moves on. And bed time??? One on my head on the pillow, one on my chest and one between my feet. I don't know who is where and I love it! All three play well together and they want alone quiet time too but snuggle factor has tripled! |
same here.... they fight for the lap.. the good thing is, when one is ready to roam, the other rushes into the lap.. haha.. it is really cute! right now, one is laying by my side, the other is on my leg... I love having more than one baby to love... |
My first yorkie (Brandy) is my snuggly one. She has always been a lap dog. My second one (Titan) is not really very cuddly but will occasionally get in my lap. If anything, Brandy is even more of a lap dog because she wants to make sure that Titan understands that she is the boss and that lap belongs to her! As a matter of fact, Brandy is in my lap now and Titan is on the chair next to me. |
:yorkietal I have 3 and they are all snuggley...the 2 boys are the same age (19 months) so they're a tag team when they play and my eldest girl is 5 years old. they have their scuffles when everyone want the same lap;) . but i wouldnt have it any other way.:D they are like chocolate kisses, you need more than one!:ghug: |
I got both of my yorkies @ 10 wks old and they have been cuddlers from the beginning. They both try to be on my lap together but the girl is a little bigger then boy so she usually gets pushed out LOL because he's smaller so he fits just right :D So she just lays next to me. |
Both of mine are cudllers as well. Maxi is more of a Mama's boy , but Coco cuddles with Mom and Daddy. |
I think it's the best of both worlds, they have some one else to play with or cuddle with if you are busy, so no guilt. But when I sit, I have 4 of them trying to all fit on my lap. It's funny, they all prefer me but occasionally one will get crowded out and go to my husband. But I am definitely the "mama" |
My daughter has noticed that when she comes home with her yorkie, the dog does not play with toys like when she is along. She is too busy playing with the other dogs here. I have way more than 2 here. Each still wants attention. I just have to be careful that the ones that are a bit more reserve get their daily hugs. |
My two love to play together and fight over their toys but they are definitely still snuggle bugs:) Right now Hoku is laying in my lap watching silly Kalani play with a squeaky toy and soon they will switch places. As soon as they get tired they will both want to lay in my lap for a short nap:) |
Bowie is a mama's boy and Raider is aunties boy!! Either way they both want cuddle time......Peanut our little girl is happy with anyones lap who is available at the time, so long as she gets a lap, lol!!! I don't see any problem with getting more then one. I wish you the best!!!! |
I have a yorkie and a maltese, and they are both cuddlers :) Miko and Emma both sleep above my head on the pillow or above my husband's head. They play together, but when it comes to mommy and daddy time, they are both trying to get in our laps :) |
I've noticed that my boy will only nap on our laps or he at least has to be touching us. If I move over he will look for me and go back to sleep lol he won't nap or sleep unless he can feel me. Is this a boy thing because my girl will cuddle but she prefers to find one of her favorite spots and nap on her own. |

My two compete for who can have the most closeup time with me. They make me feel so important! LOL |
As I read this I'm surrounded by yorkie snugglers... They love each other, play, snuggle, etc., and I love that! But when it's time to settle, they're on my lap, pushed up against me, or right underfoot. Now, Ginger did pout for the first few days, but she got over it. DH and I agree that adding the second yorkie has been great! |
We now have 13, all but one HAS to be right next to me, on my lap, between my legs, on my shoulder, where ever there is an empty spot available and if there is no spot, they make one. I have three that jocky for the lap spot and will actually lay on top of each other just so they can be on my lap. The one and only non-lap sitter is a little stinker and won't even let us pick her up unless she wants to go outside. I've been working on short times of just holding her but she's still very independent. I think it's very much how they are raised. Our pups are held and cuddled from the time they are born. |
everyone in my house laughs at me becuz I have my own personal "parade" everytime I get up, i have all 4 of the little ones, in a row, just to see who gets to my lap first if I happen to sit somewhere... LOL I love the group gang I have! |
Thanks guys!! That is exactly what I wanted to hear!:D |
I know about the parade thing! Just try to close the door to the bathroom. If they don't all make it in, they sit and scratch on the door. Shower time means little faces looking around the shower curtain to see if I am still there. When I get out, they lick my ankles. Sit to use the toilet and they all think this is their personal petting time. (I guess they do have a captive audience!!) They each have to have their turn, so forget about any reading! LOL |

Thanks for asking this question. I have been thinking about getting a second yorkie for several weeks now. Cujo knows several tricks and loves to play hide and seek. I don't want him to digress. I called the breeder that we got him from and she has 13 male and 11 female pups. She had 7 litters within 2 weeks! Has anyone got a second yorkie and regretted it? It's such a huge decision. |
My two are "twins" so they have never been the only dog. From day one though I know that getting them both was the best decision. They are so much fun to watch play together, but they still vie for your attention. They never forget who is "Mom", but most dogs like having a playmate who enjoys doing dog stuff. |

I have a mini zoo but only one Yorkie. They all love their time with me and it's so wonderful to have such a great welcoming crowd everytime I walk through the door. The small dogs sleep in my bed and each has their favorite place to sleep. Yorkie is always at my head, Chin at my feet and the Pap/Peke mix comes and goes all night. I am glad they all have each other because they love to play, sleep in their doggy beds together, bark out the windows, etc. But nothing replaces good ole' Mommy. |
I have two and they compete for lap and snuggle time. I let one of them sleep with me at night [they take turns] but they still like to play and the're good company for each other when I go to work. Karen Archie Minnie and Beau the Standard Poodle [who's really too big for the double bed] |

Marley used to get up at night when I go to the bathroom and give me kisses, but now........he doesn't care:lol tears Just kidding!:p I'm very happy to have two.I don't feel guilty when I'm not at home, plus my Leeloo is an  :aimeeyork I read somewhere that is a a good idea to separate them at times when they are puppies so they have bonding time with humans (of course this probably doesn't apply to older dogs) |
