Woman Accused Of Drowning Hundreds Of Animals

Humane Society agents on Wednesday were searching for a woman wanted for animal cruelty.

Prosecutors said Maureen McLaughlin admitted killing 650 puppies, dogs, and cats by drowning them in a trash can.

McLaughlin recently told authorities she would fill a trash can with water, put the animals in a crate, and place the crate in the water.

"She would keep fur from each animal that she killed and write the name and date and descriptions of the animals," said assistant city prosecutor Bill Hedrick.

Many of the animals MacLaughlin drowned since July 2002 were received through people thinking that she was a rescue.

"No one would expect this going on and basically she's just a mass killer of animals," Hedrick said.

Authorities were working to determine why McLaughlin killed the animals when they say she knew that what she did was wrong.

McLaughlin was charged with one count of animal cruelty because Humane Society agents recovered only one carcass.

Prosecutor Hedrick said he was concerned that she could be volunteering with local veterinarians or other rescues.

Oh my dear Lord, this is the saddest thing I have read about... what a crazy person... :(

She shows signs of a serial killer...killing many and keeping a "trophy item". It's really SICK! She's definitely got issues!

I hope they don't even let her out on bail. Sounds to me like a very disturbed person. How dare she do this to innocent little victims :( Scary what she may come up with next? Children?

exactly. most serial killers begin by killing animals and keeping "trophies." Hopefully the police department and prosecutor will take this matter very seriously, this woman screams psychopath. I'm sad for all the innocent animals :thumbdown

I'm truly amazed she hasn't killed people. Actually its sad to say but maybe she has and they haven't found them yet :( This is one sick woman. I say lock her up and throw away the key!!!

That is sick, not only the fact that she's drowning these helpless animals, but that she's lying to people making them believe she's rescuing! I hope they catch her, put her in a cage and put it under water!

Who knows... maybe she has!!! She's one seriously sick freak! Just when you think you've heard it all...:(
