Ferocious dogs I walked Chachi and jewels today and we went by this one house and this big mean dog came tearing at us. He was behind a chain link fence but it just barely held him. I picked them up just in case. I dont see why people want mean dogs like that when you can have a small cute one that you can do things with. We have alot of big mean dogs in our neighborhood. We wont be walking by there again |
Brownies small and mean lol i know all the dogs in the neightborhood i know what houses to stay away from |
Thats what was bad. We always walk down this street and its the first time I have come accross this dog. Brownie at his meanest moment couldnt be as mean as this dog. This dog wanted to eat my dogs |
That sounds soooooo scary. I remember some of the dog whisperer shows were filmed in areas where there were bunches of big, mean dogs slamming themselves against the fences and barking. |
I really believe a reason that these dogs are this agressive is loneliness and boredom....due to being left outside 24 hours a day....I don't think dogs are born mean but learn the behaviour...it doesnt make them any less scary but in many cases it just isn't their fault - :( :( :( But when WE have dogs that they want to tear into - you're very smart for staying away.... |

That is really sad. I just dont understand why people get big dogs and keep them outside all chained up. I think big dogs in this situation get mean because they get very little human contact from thier owners. I dont see the point in owning a dog when people treat them like this. I have a big dog and she is an inside dog and is sweet as an angel. I wish laws woudl keep people from neglecting dogs and just keeping them in the backyard all day. I think its the neglect that makes these big dogs sort of revert back to thier primal instinct (is that the right phrase? ) and thats why they get all mean and territorial and ferrocious. |
oops I just realized someone already said what I just posted, lol. Sorry i should read all the post before responding to a thread :p |
I'm sure some of you have cute little Yorkster kids who bark like the dickins when they see another dog or person, but that doesn't always mean they are vicious, and the same holds true with the big guys. :D I would just avoid going in their direction so they don't get too excited. As some have said, they are probably not socialized and never get out of the yard. |
Not all big dogs are mean. I've always had larger dogs and they've been great, expept Gizmo who my parents have now. He's very aggressive, but he didn't start that until after he was 1yr and we were already attached. It's not like we wanted a mean dog, it's actually very hard for my mom to deal with him :( He's good w/ the family and other dogs, just not strangers. She's thought of putting him down, but my father and I won't let her. |
I have to agree with Rae Rae! We have a German Shepherd that is just fine with our small dogs. I even posted a pictures of Diesel sitting on his back looking out of the window. He wasn't mean as a puppy. He was never outgoing either. We used to take him everywhere and he was fine. However the older he got the worse he got. I can't explain it. He isn't left outside. Only for playing, to go "out", and so on. He is just fine with us and "our" family. He does NOT like strangers. Also he is hardly ever left alone. I homeschool so I am here just about all the time. Honestly I think it is bad breeding. Like Rae Rae said he is has been around to long to just get rid of him or have him put down. He will be 5 soon. |
