can two be too many? I have two yorkies one is 2 and a 5 mo old-and i'm just pulling my hair out. the new one is extremly headstrong and I feel awful b/c my older one is just so sad. we've been trying since december and they just dont get along-i have to still put ALL toys away or they fight and my older one has little puppy bites on her-she will just sit there and then eventually attack-after a while... she is so submissive, but the puppy thinks she's playing and she's not-she looks at me to save her and i've been told to stay out of it, so i have been. I just wonder how long is long enough you know? everyone says give it time... I've had the puppy in pup school training since 8weeks, she's smart, she can sit, down, and come she knows her name. she just doesnt really care to read my other dog's boundaries at all-guess that's puppy behavior. I get so tired of listening to them argue, so I end up separating them and i'm just afraid it's going to affect the little one :(-i dont want her personality to be jaded b/c my older dog is kind of a hag-? and not playful like most other dogs----is that possible? I just feel extremely stressed out and guilty and it makes me look at the puppy a little differently when she is always harrasing the other dog and I'm sure my older dog asks for it by not stepping up and defending her space effectively, but-what do you do? I feel like putting an ad out almost everyday, then i get over it and then i feel guilty and like a failure -i just dont know what to do, i dont want this to continue-but i hate to give up..... I took a life into my hands. ?????????????? |
I understand your frustration. Jessie, who is 8, has always been VERY laid back and sweet. Scarlet, our new puppy is 3 months old. We have some of the same issues. Jessie has let her know a few times that he is unhappy with her jumping on his face. Last night we were so happy to be able to cuddle with both puppies. Jessie seemed relaxed and actually starting licking Scarlett's face. We were thrilled! It was so cute....UNTIL...she started trying to bite his tongue everytime he stuck it out to give her a kiss(lick). I didn't know what to do. I was afraid of what he would do if she got his tongue and yet didn't want him to stop...this was the first sign of any affection from him... we tried to correct her... I would venture to say as they grow in size and maturity this will pass. I am trying to catch those moments when they are both calm to re-introduce them. We pet Jessie next to her and say "good boy...see...she is not evil all the time!" So...I guess ...take a deep breath and keep at it....I think it will all work out. I keep telling myself the same.:p |
When we got Lily, she was a puppy and she would 'harrass' Dexter too. He is older and VERY laid back. She was just all over the place, biting and playing non stop. Dexter is patient for the most part, but he does snap at her - never really biting, just making sure she stops by snapping and yelping. We almost got rid of Lily because she was such a handful and didn't think they got along until she reached her first heat. Then Dexter loved her of course. (hahaha) Really, it's just the puppy age that they act like that. Lily is older now and has calmed down a LOT. She still pushes Dexter around some but she is not as bad as she used to be. It just takes time and a TON of patience ... oh and a very watchful eye. They will eventually get along, but it will take at least a year or so..... good luck! :animal36 |
