UGH..soo aggravating!!!!!!!!!! Well Sorry but I need to vent. I went into my local Goodwill store today to try and find some work pants for my boyfriend. (He goes through them so quickly it seems stupid to buy brand new ones) Anyways, I happened to have Baby with me and it is pretty warm out so I brought her in with me, and just to be polite I stopped at the counter to make sure they didn't mind her being in there as long as I didn't put her down. The lady at the counter was extremely rude and said "she can only be in here if she is a service dog or is in a carrier". So I said, well i have a huge bag (purse), if I put her in it, would that be okay? She didn't anwser my quesiton but instead picked up the phone and called someone else to the front. This lady was nice and I told her it was hott in the car and I could put her in my bag, and that I understand that there are rules but i just wanted to know if it was okay to have her in my bag. Well the rude lady I had been talking to earlier says " I allready told you the rules and you didn't listen." ( which didn't make any sense because she never anwsered my question, just called someone else up, but then never let the lady speak because she wouldn't stop running her mouth!!!) So I said, "well i just asked if I put her in bag would that be okay, since you said a carrier was okay." The rude lady said "well she could pee and poop in there." And i argued that she wouldn't potty in my bag. The lady said " We don't know that." and I said well I do and nevermind i don't need to deal with you rude people. Now seriously doesn't that seem a little unreasonable? Esspecially because I had a big purse she could have went in. I just didn't have a carrier with me. And it's not like they have food there, or are even a nice store??? It really made me mad, anyways, even if Baby did potty in my bag, it's not like she pees a gallon..lol....i know you all allready knew that, but still. It's just the principle. SOrry this is soo long but I'm just aggravated. |
Urgh! That IS aggravating!! And even if she did go potty in your bag - that would be your problem - not theirs!! That lady must not be a dog person!! |
Sorry you had such a bad experience. Some sales people are just rude beyond logic but they are not worth ruining your day over. I don't see how that was gonna hurt her or the store in any way. |
That was vey rude of her! Lesson: Don't ask permision...just put her in bag! :p |
It is really simple to make a dog, especially a yorkie, a service animal. Then you never have the problem again. In fact, most of the yorkies on here probably already qualify if they have any training at all, and if the onwer has any "disability" which can range from occasional severe headaches, high blood pressure, minor hearing loss, to the deaf and blind. PM me if you wnat more info. I would be happy to help. It benefits everyone when an animal is a service animal! |
What do they care if YOUR bag has pee or poop in it anyway? That's ridiculous. I used to manage a retail store, and i have say i didn't like when people brought their animals in, so my rule of thumb was 1. carry it, 2. get your item and go. I didn't allow the "looky-looing"... but obviously you were on a mission and knew what you were after. It probably would have taken you 5 minutes if they would've just let you alone. Sorry you had such a bad experience. :( |
Thanks guys....the whole situation just made me so angry. And thanks for the advice yappyscrappy.... I won't ask next time, I'll just wait for them to say something. lol |

That's exactly what I was thinking! Some people are just miserable and need someone to take it out on. I would think it would be better to allow a dog to sit in your purse (as apposed to suffocating to death in a hot car) than to lose someone's business over something rediculous. It's not as if you brought a 200 lb. dog into an antique shop!! |
Rude People Suck! |
I've never trusted or thought very highly of people who don't like animals, dogs in particular. Something wrong there unless they've been bitten or viciously attacked to create some weird phobia. But, anyhow, Kim (SoCalYorkilvr) has some great information about "service animals" with all the official government legal guidelines, etc. I printed out the information and now carry it in my purse everywhere, just in case I do have to run in someplace that I don't typically think allows the furbabies... I haven't had to use it yet, but it feels good knowing that I have something to back me up just in case I run into one of those disturbed individuals who don't like me having my baby with me. Tucker just eats up the attention he gets from most people who see us out. Good Luck! Dana |

Even most pet shops in UK would not allow dogs in unless they were guide dogs. It doesn't present a problem in fact some times I think it might be nice if shops banned children too ;) |
Not being mean or rude or anything offensive, but why didn't you just put her in your purse and go ahead with what you wanted to do? That's what I would have done. It is absolutely none of that lady's business if my dog does her business in my purse. IT'S MY PURSE, she doesn't have to look, smell or clean it up. Then if she called someone, you could have told them what the lady said and the reason for a carrier is so your pet doesn't make a mess in the store and your purse serves the same purpose. See, if my dog is in my purse(and I do put them there) I don't see why I can't take them where ever I go. I wouldn't take them into a restaraunt(sp?) because of my own comfort. I'd be too worried about them getting restless and causing me not to enjoy myself. But even in a carrier they don't want them in the grocery stores. I have a carrier that hangs on you like the carriers for babies but it just looks like a purse. At one time or another all of my babies were too small to be seen in it unless they were standing on their hind legs. If all you can see of my baby is their nose or their head, what harm can there be in taking them into a grocery store? Ack - Sylvia |
Cat People...........UGH!!!!!! (She had to be a "cat person".......that's the ONLY explanation)... |
I hear ya! Some people just don't understand. Most people I encounter are nice people, but I have been called "a dog carrying bitch" for having Mason in his carrier!!! This devastated me at the time, as I just couldn't understand why people would be so unnecessarily rude. But you know, it's their loss if they can't have compassion for another life that happens to be furry. Don't let them get to ya. |
"Dog carrying #$%&#" Yikes!! What some people will come up with? Sorry everyone had to go through that. I used to frequent the Goodwill often and it was not really the place with the best customer service. I would have been angry too. Rude people make me so mad....if they are just nice about whatever it is, then I don't have a problem, but when they have to be hateful and rude, then I get mad. Anyhow, hope you don't let them bring ya done. I always feel better after I vent too!! |
That woman is probably a very unhappy person. Try to pity her. I'm sorry you were treated that way. Personally, my dog would be easier to handle than my granddaughter in a store! When we are in Mexico, dogs can go almost anywhere! Its great! |
Here in NYC is a violation of the Health Dept code to bring an animal into any store that sells food (and restaurants, of course), unless it's a seeing eye dog. I've brought Sophie into non-food stores without a problem, but I hold her and never put her down on the floor. If I have the carrier with me, I put her in. The dry cleaner I use doesn't allow dogs in the store (personal preference, I guess), but when he saw Sophie (and I didn't have the carrier), he let me in because he thought she was so cute. So I guess cuteness can sometimes open doors! :) |
First I would like to say I understand about the boyfriend ruining the jeans at work. Only mine is now my husband and he is so picky about the jeans he wears even though he is still going to ruin them. I'm so envious that your's will wear 2nd hand, it would be the best day of my life if I could get mine to. He doesn't wear 80 dollar jeans to work or anything but still. Now to the point, you know I could understand it if she had said no to all situations besides service dogs. It is a public store and they have rules to follow. But if you could carry your dog in inside a carrier why couldn't you use your purse. Its essentially the same things. Besides if the dog did mess in you purse, she could have always gotten the satisfaction of saying serves you right. I will say my friend came over with her maltese and she took him into severally places: Movie Gallery, Old Navy, Parisians, Target and probably more. She just toted him right in by the last stores she was even getting a little guttsy and would just walk in with his head poking out just so proud. Noone said anything. Next time just walk in, heck you had to deal with them anyway. |
Man I guess I was just being too nice. I really do think that she just must not have been a dog person. And I had to laugh about Goodwill not being known for good customer service..made me think to myself for a second if I actually had expected it....lol.. I suppose i just expect everyone to be curtious. It's really not that hard. I'm so glad you all are so understanding and can relate. I told some of my friends and they said, " Why didn't you just put her in the car." I guess they missed the moral of the story. Some people just don't get the love we have for our canine companions. I can't imagine my life without those goodmorning kisses and priceless moments Baby gives me everyday. Hickey007: Yeah I feel lucky Nathan (my bf) will wear 2nd hand jeans because he is miserably picky and prefers his clothing to be from Abercrombie and Fitch...which I just can not understand because it's just soo expensive...lol...I guess I'm just cheap... |
WHAT A WITCH! What does she care if you baby was to poop in your purse? It's your purse. Some people just don't need to be in the customer service profession! |
I feel your pain! I got tossed out of Target the other day! The security guard actually hunted me down and asked to look in my bag! Well, of course, Rocky was in there and he asked me to leave, put the dog in the car and then come back to finish my shopping! HELLO! This is Arizona and it was over 100 degrees! And, I was even there to buy pet products (they do have a couple of cute puppy shirts, btw)! Maybe someone saw him poking his nose out of the puppy purse and complained...who knows! So, as he was "escorting" me out of the store, he gave me an under the breath, half apoplogy and something about health codes! It is against the law in Arizona to leave your pet in the car! I would like to give him a lesson on health codes! My response was "Hey, you get paid minimum wage to be an as* hole" and I left. Guess I won't be shopping at that store anymore! |
