I'm glad he is ok!! Keep a close eye on him & give him lots of love! |
I am glad hes okay too. That would scare me terribly!!! My dogs are sound sleepers but not that sound. |
Scary indeed. I just want to mention that the next time this occurs, open the eyelids and check for eye movement. If they are moving, he is in deep sleep. Listen for a heartbeat. |
i had a rottie that did that once sebastain was barking like crazy and would not stop so i got up to see what was up Nala my rottie was laying in the hall and he was barking at her right in her face i said Nala whats wrong she didnt move i put my hand on her ribs and shook her she still didnt move i yelled her name again and again and when i touched her she felt stiff and cold i freaked out and started crying and yelled to my son OMG nala is dead he came out of his room and said nala and she looked up at him i couldnt beleive it i was so upset. After everything calmed down a little i thougth geez what would i have done with an 80 pound dog at 3am  |
please, keep us posted,, after you take him to vet on the 20th , to let us know what they say!! |
Glad he's ok, please keep us updated on his condition. |
his legs going straitgh, stiff were the key words signaling possible epilepsy. Sounds like was a petit mal seizure. Joker has grand mal's he began them at 10months old, thankfully weve only had 3 seizures so far. My vet did inform me-epilepsy isnt known to kill dogs but they can go into a seizure and not come out. In that case he has to go get a shot. Once he reaches 1 seizure a month he will be put on phenobarbitol. Epilepsy is bad breeding-it is heriditary and bred in. |
Sure sounds like a seizure to me, too. There are seizures of unknown cause and they can be grand mal or petit mal. Grand mal are the dramatic ones you see on TV. Petit mals can be nothig more than staring. No matter-they both are degrees of seizures. There is a period of time after the Grand mal seizure where the body will stay very stiff and the animal can be unresponsive and to the untrained eye, the do appears dead. Same thing happens to humans. And, I will say that people and animals do indeed die of seizures! So, please keep a journal but try to learn what is important and what is just normal "odd" behavior that any dog can exhibit. Hypoglycemia can cause seizures so I would ALWAYS keep NutriStat where I can get it. Squirt some right uder hs tongue. Doesn't matter whether his sugar is not low-better to err on the side of caution. Check your baby's mouth and see if he has any bite marks inside his cheeks or in his tongue!! Give that baby Yorkie hugs from Rini's Cuties.. |
He seems fine now. The vet said it could be anything from him sleeping very heavy (he did play a LOT yesterday) to sleep apnea (sp). She told me to keep a journal if this should happen again. Then from there we can diagnose what it is and fix it. As far as angel...well...it seems she had a slight infection. They said its nothing to stress over. Something with her mammory glads (which doesnt explain why she is still bleeding...not to me anyway), but they gave her a shot of oxytocin and some antibiotics. Before I left I asked "will she be ok in the car? I have to stop a few places on the way home." The vet said "yes she'll be fine. LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR! My mother in law (who's van we were in) and I went in to pick up my som from school. When we cam out, it looked like angel exploaded from her rear end. There was poop all over the windows, windshield, radio, seats, floor, etc and boy did it stiny. It was all mushy but not quite diarreah. Soon after that (once we got it as clean as possible) she was vomitting over and over again. Now that we're home she's fine but I am calling my vet to complain. I was told she would be fine but isntead the opposite happened. Now I have to pay to get my in-laws fan cleaned and im gonna make it known to the vet!!! The puppies have been doing really well with the puppy food/esiblac(sp) mix. They seem to love it. Although, the biggest one (the mamma's boy) doesn't eat a lot of it. He wants mommy. So, I may just bottle feed him for now and ween him from that. Is that ok to do? |
The same thing happened to my mom. Riley had just gotten his rabies shot and was kind of lethargic and sick. She woke up in the middle of the night and Riley was laying on his back with his legs straight up in the air. She couldn't feel him breathing or anything. She kept rubbing him and trying to wake him up, and finally it worked! She was very upset! We know how you feel! |
My first experience with this was when I found Max at the foot of our waterbed under the covers - and yes he gave me a fright after that I never let him sleep under the covers again. He now sleeps at the foot of the bed on a ottoman under his own blankets. It sure seems like a long time when they don't respond on contact. |
Oh wow - poor babies - You've sure had a tough day ! I really hope it doesn't happen again ..that had to be the scariest thing to see - Glad your vet visit went well but sorry about the car - I bet that wasn't fun either - and I used to think I had a crappy car ? |
My shihtzu (fitz) has done that a time or 2 . He was having night terrors . He would just start crying out and then go limp . And it would take us several mins. to wake him. One was so bad he pooped all over himself . Our vet checked him for everything and said all it could be was nightmares . He is 8 years old now and still has a nightmare from time to time . But they are not near as bad . Now its a bark or a wine nonthing more . |
My gosh...how awful scary that had to be! I'm so glad to see that he's okay and hopefully it won't happen again! Sorry to hear about the mess in the car...if it isn't one thing, it's another, huh? |
OMG , oh dear I would probably react the same way. The worst thing is that I dont have the emergency number to the emergency vet. I have to get it from my vet! My vet is like 3 min away from my home but the emergency is about 20 minutes away. I would probably end up getting stopped by the cops for running red lights to get to the vet! I could imagine the cops calling for backup because I refuse to pull over! lolAfter reading this thread I am deffinately going to call my vet in the morning to get the emergency number. Please keep us updated when your furbaby gets his checkup. Genie |
