Left ear at half mast We have a larger pet quality female Yorkie that we acquired as a companion for our supersized male Yorkie. When we brought her home at 9 weeks, her ears were flopped over. We were fine with that since our male's ears are flopped over, too. This past Sunday, just shy of 16 weeks, I noticed one of her ears is now standing straight up, and the other is flopped over. This is now the third day that we've have one erect ear and one at half-mast. So we need some advice from knowledgeable Yorkie owners. Should we: 1. Wait for awhile (I have no idea how long) to see if the left ear develops some backbone? 2. Attempt to tape the ears at such a late date in her development. 3. Fill in the blank ___________________. Thank you. |
My chihuahua Minnie had floppy ears when we first got her..then a week later one grew straight then another week later they were both standing..i'd wait a while and see what happens before going to the tape. |
one of pebbles ears started standing about two weeks ago... and the other one is still flopped... but it looks like its slowly making its way up. i think it looks cute with one down and one up though :-) |
not sure if this had ANYTING to do with it but, i talked to the vet and she told me to massage them up daily, I was doing that but seeing no difference. I recently started giving him a little cottege cheese with his food and then the ears are up. I dont know if it had anything to do with it but there up! |
Trim the hair off the ears. You can use a battery operated moustache & beard trimmer or carfully trim it as much as you can with a pair of scissors. Just trim from the tip of the ear 1/3 way down to the base so they still have the "feathered" look. It takes the weight off the ear and helps it to stand. |
Ears don't often go up at exactly the same time. I used to breed Cairns & often they'd be one ear up & one down for weeks, but they all went up eventually. Teething can have a big effect, sending the ears up & down, till things settle. It is a good idea to trim all the long hair off the top half, less weight to hinder them standing. Just take care with a wriggly pup :) |
I would leave it alone for now. I bet it comes up all the way on its own |
