Mats :( Buddah has gotten matted. I didnt realize this was happening. I brush him all the time but i think the brush i bought isnt getting the roots. now my baby is matted all over. I went to the pet store and got some spray conditioner and a new comb that a nice yorkie owner in the store recommended. Problem is not matter how much I conditioner I spray I cant get out the mats. What can I do!!!??? I dont want him to have dreds! |
Get a slicker brush to take out them matts and if that doesnt work you may need to get a dematting comb. I got mine from Petsmart online i do believe |
Slicker brush? Is that a type of brush or a brush that is slicker than mine? Sorry Im new to this. Never had a dog you have to get groomed or even brush. |
It is a type of brush groomers use to go through the matts. I think I got mine at Petco. It works on smaller matts real well but if they are bigger matts I always have to use a dematting comb. You want to use that as a last resort because it does cut through the hair |
thanks a ton. Buddah loves when i drag him on the carpet with a sock but I dont think that is helping the mats too much. haha |
Do you know what type of coat your furbaby has? I use a CC buttercomb and we never get matts.......... |

It's best if you start brushing near the ends of the hair & only work back towards the roots once you've got some of the end clear. Just keep starting further back up each section as the ends become untangled. Is this as clear as mud? It's a bit hard to explain. If you begin near the skin it just makes things worse by pushing the mats into the length. I find the best way to prevent them, once you've got rid of them, is to use a really good conditioner when you bath. I even use half & half conditioner & shampoo to wash her when her coat's really long. Then just give a good once over with a bristle brush every day to stop them forming. It's quicker in the end than having to detangle mats. |
I heard a lot of good things about Cowboy Magic... And since a friend of mine was going to USA I asked her to bring me 1 CM detangler, but she was told at Petsmart that they were not selling it anymore:confused: So she bought Clean Scent Grooming Spray... it says "takes out tangles & helps prevent future tangling"... well... it doesn't help to prevent anything!!! But does help to take out tangles though... Katiuscia & Maggie & Hannah...:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I feel your pain! This happened with Tatum when she was a pup. I thought I was brushing her well enough but found out after about 4 baths (little over a month's time) that I wasn't getting all the way down to the root. With a lot of help from Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner and a good comb, I managed to get them all out and now use a comb exclusively when grooming after a bath. I only use a brush after she's dry to finish it off. Try conditioning the heck out of him and use a good leave-in conditioner. You can always re-bathe him after you get the mats out if he has too much conditioner on him. Good luck! |
thanks for all the help guys :) |
