yorkies and hampsters I got My Daughter a couple of dwarf hampsters this weekend. Chachi and Jewels did real good with them at first but then late when my daughter was holding one Jewels went up and acted like she was gonna bite it. So now I am nervous for them to be around them. They are really curious about them. Do any of you have small animals and did your yorkie get used to them |
YES!!! Peanut did the same thing with my step daughters hamster!!! She was obsessed with it. We couldn't tell if she wanted to mother it or eat it!! LOL!! |
I never let my dogs around my duaghters hampster but I had a stray cat to have 5 kittens in my closet yesterday and they go in there and lick and love them. LOL |
My daughter has one and Diesel always wants to eat it! He will shake and lick his lips and sometimes even drool. He has even tried to bite it a few times. If given the chance he would probably attack and kill it. Now our German Shepherd just licks it. |
I think since terriers naturally go after rats and small prey animals, I'd keep them seperated just to be on the safe side :) |
Yorkies were bred to hunt small rodents. The "terrier" instinct has not been bred out. Yorkies generally think of hamsters as snack food. |
Yorkies are bred to catch (kill) rodents.... and not to carry around like toys..,, I would keep them away from the hamsters.... sounds like this could be a sad story..., |

I had a dwarf hamster (lilly) that passed away recently of old age :( My furkids loved her.........the cat even allowed her to walk over his back.....Bobbi and Melody the canines........loved her as well. |
Pepper has a few smaller toys (like hamster size) and, judging by the way he shakes them and throws them around, I'd never risk showing him a real thing... But, you never know, he might actually surprise me ;) |
