Harness Question.. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good harness to use. The one that I have I got from petsmart..just your standard harness. The problem is Reese absolutely hates it..its like torture to get her to put it on and I think it is because it cuts into her armpits. She has kind of a long body, like a little hot dog:) ...is there a harness that anyone uses that seems to be more comfortable on their dog?? |
I love the Puppia harnesses. They're made out of a soft mesh material and are super comfy and well ventilated:) |
Lots of folks here at YT make harnesses in all different types of materials and styles. Spend a little time looking through some of the websites. I'm sure you will find something both you and your pup like! |
I use an Alpine harness. |
chattiesmom makes a silk harness, and everyone has had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. It sounds like the silk harness would be very good for your baby as the one she has now seems to be causing discomfort. My yorkie also has a longer body, and we also want to prevent matting while in their harnesses, so silk is the way to go for us :) I'm actually going to be ordering the silk harnesses for my furbabies from chattiesmom very soon. Good luck! |
1 Attachment(s) I am attaching a pic of Scout in his Gooby Harness. It's the only one he will wear "Puppia", but mine says "Gooby" on it. I got it from an outdoor shop in Santa Monica, but I see where you can order them online. I absolutely love mine and they are comfy and well made with the mesh, leather and metal buckles that won't break like the plastic. Should last forever. My female, Pippa, has a pink one! |
Here is a link that shows the harness much better than you can see with my Hairy Scout! http://www.gollygear.com/freedomharness.htm |
1 Attachment(s) Here's Tink in her PocoMutt harness made especially for her. |
I love the Puppia harnesses, too. They are soft mesh. You could also try a harness vest. They don't cut into their skin. |

That's what I can't figure out either, Laura...I have people that have told me, "oh, that's such a cute Puppia harness". Mine have the "freedom harness". I'll have to do a search on Puppia. |

Highly recommend! d |
We have two Doggles soft harnesses made of microfiber (soft fuzzy material) and velvet with velcro closures that we loooove. Go to Doggles.com and look for the fashion harnesses and leads. Page 3 is one of the ones we have and the other is on page 4. They are super comfortable and the design (sort of a T-strap style rather than fitted vest) makes it impossible for it to be tight under the armpits. They also happen to be very cute. Btw, the armpits are a pressure point for dogs and there is even a special "no-pull" harness that is specifically made to put pressure under the dog's armpits as this discourages the dog from pulling on the leash. So I can see why your dog is uncomfortable with anything that fits tightly under the armpits. |
