wow! how young can they be fixed? how young can the breeders get them fix so they cant make babies? male or female? |
I thought it was about 6 months. Why, have you heard of it done way earlier than that? |
I know there are some breeders that get them fixed before they go to their new homes. I dont know what age they do it though |
Everyone says 6 months for males and maybe a little later for females BUT when you look at the rescued puppies from shelters, I saw them being available for adoption at 8 weeks, already fixed - mainly big breeds though. |
i dont know! i dont know i just wanted to see if anyone did know how young?i have no cule ! so can it be as young as weeks old????? |
I think the six months for boys is most common. Our vet says between 7 to 9 months for toy dogs --- partly to do with weight and partly to wait on status of teeth, since they usually need to have some baby teeth pulled. I don't think think there would be a problem with doing the surgery earlier, but I would depend on your vet's advice. If I remember correctly (sure more knowledgable folks here can correct) the breeders I talked to who insisted puppies be altered before sale kept them until 5 months. |
o my ! im not going to fix mine i want them to have litters in the future if thats what god wants to.....so i got my both really young and i didnt know how young it could be done ! so no worries here! |
I think a vet can fix them any time, but it is not recommended. The vets use a smaller and slightly different equipment, I think. The animals can have more complications during and after the surgery when they are smaller. As a pet owner, you can wait until the dog is 6 months in order to make it easier for the vet and the animal, but the shelters prefer not to wait for obvious reasons. |
Not sure what the "actual" proper age is, my vet would not do it before 6 mos. of age...I was not able to get the papers from the breeder to AKC register him until I showed her the proof of neuter...I bought my boy with the understanding I would not use him for breeding |
Mine was done before I brought him home at 5 months. Breeder said it stops leg lifting and marking. Ha Ha! He has never marked, but he started lifting his leg a few months ago. |
I heard (or read somewhere)... that females can be spayed at 5 to 6 months old... but males can be neutered fairly young... at 8 to 12 weeks... why???... I really don't remember... I guess it is really up to the vet that you deal with.. they all seem to practice differently. |
Chloe is almost 6 months. I have made and broken two appointments to get her fixed. Mostly because she's small, and a spay is major surgery. I worry about it. The other reason, is that I might want to breed her. So I want to wait and see how her coat is, health, knees, liver, etc. |
Hmm, I'll have to check how early it's safe to get Kalani neutered since Hoku's heart can't survive going under anesthesia for a spay but she also can't afford to get pregnant. Sigh. |
My furbaby Samson,,,, is 4 months old and his testicles still have not dropped... No sign of them anywhere..,,, I keep hoping they will drop before he is 6 months old I want to have hime fixed before he starts all those bad boy habits... |
i read somewhere today about this, some website christans something was stating that basically the puppy can be fixed at 6 weeks, then 2 weeks of rest then go to the new home.. I FIND THAT WAY TOO YOUNG jmo but i also read today that they have a new way possibly of fixing the males, they inject a shots that sterlizes everything, so no long recovery time no real surgery |
