Length of Back I was curious if the 'standard' refers to body length at all. Betty is 20 weeks old, about 5 1/2 lbs (already), and looks to me like she has a longish body. I measured (as best I could!) from the base of her neck to the base of her tail and it was approx 11 1/2 to 12 inches. Is that long?? Thanks for any input. |
I don't know what the standard is for body length but, I have read alot of puppies for sale that mention a square, cobby body. I think the breeders like the looks of a square body which means the height of the puppy from floor to shoulders would be the same as the length of the puppy from base of neck to base of tail. One of my yorkies is a square 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 but the other one measures 11" long by 9 1/2" height. How tall is your little girl? |
The length of the back (base of neck to base of tail) should equal the length of leg from top of shoulder to floor. Nothing is written in the standard, but what you're looking for is a well balanced looking yorkie. |

body But at 20 weeks, a Yorkie can certainly "come up" on leg..but then again it is not a positive. A short legged Yorkie, rarely, if ever turns into a long legged Yorkie, but one with a bit of a short leg can grow just enough to balance out and be square. |

Yorkies go through growing spurts, higher in front, higher in the rear. Some remain that way.....but, while they are growing, expect anything. |
yorkie growth When do they stop growing? |
