How easily do they forget a person? I have recently separated with my husband...Sammi and I moved out of the apt she was basically raised in from a 3 month old puppy in the beginning of May... Last night I brought her back to the old apt because my ex wanted to see her...She acted like he was a stranger...She didn’t want him to hold her or anything...She was VERY CLOSE with him always...Has she forgotten him? Do they forget that easily? She also sniffed around the old apt ALOT which is normal for her when she goes to a new place but then she did pee pee on his futon in his den...Which she never did b4...Very odd behavior...Can anyone offer any insight as to why she reacted this way? I was thinking maybe the new smells threw her off...I have no idea... Thanks!! Fran |
Perhaps she senses the tension between you two. |
I personally don't think that they forget all that easily. We live in NJ and my parents live in Chicago. We go and visit my parents quite often. Annie remembers my parents and their place very well. Once we went on vacation for a week and left her with them and when we came back it was like she never forgot anything! :) |
Sammi is the same way with my parents...That is where we are living now until we get an apt...When i was living in the old apt she would see them maybe every 2-3 weeks and she would be just as excited...That is why i couldnt understand her reaction last night...There was zero tension every between my ex and I...No fighting or yelling that she ever witnessed... |
My daughter is away at college and she and her 8 month old puppy, Buddha come home periodically and Buddha seems to pick up where he left off. He remembers us, the house, Hefner, etc. When we go visit her he recognizes us as well. I don't think they forget that quickly. |
Hmmmm, then its a mystery to me as to why she acted this way with him...Strannnngeeeee :) |
well you would more than surprised how easily they feel the tension. Annie loves both me and my husband (me a little bit more :) ) But if we ever get into arguments Annie just looks at my husband and starts barking at him :D |
I think it may be a loyalty thing..when I am annoyed with my bf he can be oblivious but the dog comes to sit with me and just kind of snorts at him and shows his teeth when my bf tries to talk to him or play with him..so funny |
Yeah, I bet you guys are right...I didnt think of the loyality thing...She is a momma's girl! :) Thanks! |
The peeing on the futon is definitely a statement! I'd say he's mad! He knows his Daddy isn't around any more, and he wants to leave his scent on that futon so he won't forget him! lol  |
All the puppies I have placed in new homes recognizes me . Even if they are 1 or two years old . |
I dont think they forget very easily... Missy remembered her breeder and mother and siblings, she was seperated from them at 8weeks when we took her home, and was reunited with them about 6 months later and went up to all of them like they were family.. I really think she knew them... And my ex-boyfriend and bought a golden retriever together in 94', we broke up in 98' and he kept her... I saw her in Jan and once she heard my voice she was all over me, she knew I was her long lost Mama :D Maybe Sammi was mad at your ex-husband or sensed the tension? |
I Don't think they forget to easily either. I had a pomeranian named Roxie who was about 5 months old, she just wouldn't get along with Oreo (she was a whopping 6 pounds compared to Oreo) So I gave her to my Uncle and his family, since they'd been looking for a dog like crazy, but couldn't afford those high priced ones. well it had been a few months since i've seen Roxie.. i'd always just hear how she was doing and stuff like that. I even bought her a shirt from BarkinDog lol.. My uncle and his family live in my old house. My parents go there quite often to fix up the place... and Roxie would always growl and bark at them, so weird because back at our house, Roxie would always whine and whimper when she wanted attention from them. When Roxie saw me it was like she never forgot who i was, what i smelled like, she just pounced on me and gave me so many kisses i had a wet face!.. i don't think dogs forget you.. maybe your doggie just knew the tension between you and the ex. just a thought.. (a long one at that :p ) |
rembering I recently took Sydney into Petco to visit her breeder who is a cashier there. She didn't recognize her by sight...but as soon as she heard her voice she started freaking out and doing the whole-body-wag. ;) I think they remember for a long time...at least by smell and voice, if not sight. |
Toby is seven now and he recently saw a friend of mine who he hadn't seen for about five years and as soon as he got a sniff he remember perfectly well. Mind you, he saw my ex father in law a while back and he was just as aloof as I was!!! :) |
