What a great job you've done with the FAQ!

I have a few additions and ? to it - here they come:

Getting 2 yorkies - it's a really good idea NOT to get them at the same time if they are pups - they will forget all about the humans and just play with each other. Getting no. 2 when the first is around 1 year and fully trained is perfect because it will help train the new pup :)

I got so sad when I red this - it is in no way neccesary to scold a yorkie or hit it at any time. You can train your yorkie with praise and motivation alone! Hitting it even with cardboard will only make it handshy. Please take that out of the FAQ and don't teach people to punish their dogs!

Confining a yorkie has no effect since they forget what they did in 3 seconds and therefor at the time you have put it in confinement, it will have forgotten what it did and will only think you don't love it anymore :(

So that's a bad idea too.

Addition: Don't ever yell at your yorkie - it has much better hearing than you and it will hurt it's ears to be yelled at. Furthermore it will stop responding to your normal "no" tone of voice and only listen to you when you yell - bad, bad, bad....

Great medical info - I have faith that all yorkie owners will be well prepared for anything with your list of emergency items :)

We do not in ANY WAY condone hitting your Yorkie at any time and we do understand that training can be a controversial subject, and not everyone will agree with a certain training method. We do emphasize praising and rewarding your Yorkie for good behavior. When we say stern tap, we do mean just that, a tap. We are not saying to strike or hit a Yorkie with a hand or paper towel roll with full force. Some people have used the cardboard part of a paper towel roll with good success. It can be used to get their attention while you tell your Yorkie that what they did is bad.

A "quarantine" or time-out, is recommended in many training books as a way to discipline your Yorkie. They can be used effectively for short time periods as a way to let your Yorkie know that you disprove of their behavior.

Any Yorkie owner, is of course free to choose what training method they wish to use and employ with their own Yorkie. We are not telling anyone to hit their Yorkie at all.

I agree with Kewtee when she said that about getting 2 Yorkies at the same time. I bought Pirogue last June and Lady in July. He was 8wks and she was almost 6mo. I think because we got him first and he had run of the house for a month that when we brought Lady home he thot she was a new toy for him. I think I was a little stiff with Pirogue when I got him because I had been hurt so badly by the deaths of several previous pets. But back to the subject, to this day he would rather spend time with the other dogs than with me. He does sleep next to me and gives me kisses and sometimes he acts like he wants a hug but won't stay in my lap for very long. From my own experience I don't know if you should wait a whole year or if the first pet can help train the next but I would say let your baby get some attachment to you before getting the next. Sylvia
