Do you take your Yorkie shopping? I just got a 4 month old Yorkie pup and I really want to take her everywhere (in a carrier, of course - Canadian winters & a 2lb dog don't mesh very well as I learned the hard way with my Min Pin 7 years ago). My question is...do you take your Yorkie to the mall/grocery store/Costco/wherever? Do the stores mind if he/she's in a purse carrier? I wouldn't want to get in trouble lol :p |
Nope, they don't go anywhere there is food. The mall does allow pets in carriers here because they sell dogs in there. I still don't because god knows what these puppy mills babies may have........ My furkids go shopping to petsmart or petco....but in their carrier.......I don't let them touch the floor......lol |
We take sawyer almost everywhere with us in his carrier. We don't take him in a store that sells food, but anywhere else is fair game.:aimeeyork |
I have been able to Jaxon everywhere in an enclosed carrier-no one knows he is there. We have been in Costco, Walmart, Department Stores, etc... He doesn't make a peep so' taking him is not a problem. |
I take Momiji to anywhere I can take. I've been kicked out from Target and Baby R Us but well now I know not to go there, right?? I wouldn't take her to anywhere that sell food either. Just because it isn't right. I don't want to buy food where any dogs are hunging around..... (some large dogs aren't really clean..... you know) I just took Momiji to shopping mall last night, I had to exchange some shirts at Banana Republic and I had no problem there!!!! |

I also don't take Sassy where I think I might be asked to leave..... food related places. Although, I was surprised when my podiatrist told me I could bring her to my appointments. She is such a good girl when we go out. :) I have a question for you about Min Pins....how big do they get? I hired someone to help me do some cleaning in my house because I have had foot surgery and got behind. Anyway....I had a brand new bag for Sassy from GW Little (95.00) hanging on the chair at the kitchen table, and after they left the bag cannot be found. She has min pins. Would they fit in a carrier like my 3.5 pound Yorkie? |

I do hate to think the worst of people but besides the fact that they did a lousy job, the bag could't have just disappeared into thin air. And she thought I would have her back to clean again. That little job ended up costing me 200.00 all told. *sigh* I should have had my first clue when I found her husband in my purse, but he said he thought it was his wife's purse. Idiot that I am, I believed him. Not now, though. They say hind sight is 20/20 eh? |

I don't take Katy into places where there is food. If its a new place, I will always ask. Most of them all say yes. Katy sits in the baby part of the buggy and we go shopping. She loves this! Now when she sees har favorite strip mall she goes a little crazy. She can't wait to get in and shop. |
Shopping for me is a rare thing these days but I dunno if you consider fabric store shopping places  those I go to all the time and I always have Annika with me if it is a weekend. She is slightly too big for her carrier so her head is sticking out all the time now :p. Definitely a no-no on any store that sells food - for health reasons. But I think the Mall is okay as long as they remain in their carriers :) |
As a former restaurant owner, I never had a problem with someone bringing in a dog in a carrier/tote. In most cases, you never even knew they were there and they usually exhibited better behavior than most of the children that came in. I had one regular customer that had been bringing her Yorkie in for months with nobody the wiser. It never made a noise at all. Everyone thought it was just her purse, never realising it was precious cargo. . :aimeeyork |
Sammiz, I was told by the vet that our Min Pin wasn't going to be any bigger than 6lbs because she was an extreme runt of the litter (a little more than 1/4 pound when born), but she's a whopping 21lbs now!!! Don't know how to explain that one?? lol |
STRANGE, when i went to my vet, he said i should be taking her to lots of places, INCLUDING the grocery store... but after reading your replies, I see maybe it wouldn't be a good idea... i wonder why he said that!!! |
